And then there was this, not Trump - but his allies...

Propaganda reminecent of the works of the Nazi propaganda of the 30s and 40s.

This stuff makes me terrified.

This stuff makes me terrified.

Both sides are guilty of being creative with the truth and both sides have exaggerated to prove their particular points. Somewhere in between the truth might exist.

No. This is more than "both sides". The NRA seems to be on a journey to paint everyone else that is not white and armed an enemy of the state, ready to run riots and asking people to act against these individuals, who just happen to be not Christian evangelicals and white.

The USA is a divided nation. Whoever lives inside their borders don't seem to see it but from outside you can see the madness of the majority.

As the adage goes " the first casualty of any conflict is truth" The second I believe is sanity and the third is reason. This is a conflict, a conflict of ideals that if left unchecked will escalate into something that will get out of control with only a dire outcome.

The protagonists need to back down and let reason and sanity sort it out but alas I do not see that happening, beliefs and perceptions are too entrenched.

And even worse when the propaganda is targeted at zealous gun-owners who seriously do believe that use of those firearms by individuals to protect the people from tyranny is justified and their constitutional right. Some number of these nutters do believe that Obama was a tyrant or the antichrist.

If / when Trump is impeached or removed from office, then it's certain that many will be convinced that action was a conspiracy, that a coup has taken place, and that they have a duty to do something about it.

They're already nutters, as they favour Trump despite his past and present behaviour being completely at odds with their own conservative Christian doctrine - so don't expect them to be rational and gracious in defeat.

Trump is no Christian. To the extent he believes in any god at all other than the dollar, it's only to not give a flying function about him. Jesus was crucified as much for being a friend of the poor, sick, and untouchable as because he claimed to be God. Trump may not be the eponymous Antichrist, but he is as anti-Christ as anyone you're ever likely to meet.

So, I just don't get why "Christians" would ever vote for him. He is the opposite of everything Jesus ever preached about.

You only have to read the posts on Breitbart to know that some sections of the American population are completely and absolutely crazy.

I pop in there to read posts occasionally as I think it's important to get a feel for other points of view. It's like some weird kind of lunatic asylum with everyone shouting. There is no discussion, it's shouted down.

That said you could replace Breitbart with 'Stuff', 'NZ Herald', 'Whale Oil' and come up with the same conclusion about Aotearoa  wink

IMO the Breitbart posts are far more extreme than anything you could read here.

That's not to say we couldn't head down the same path in the future although I think it unlikely.

From what I saw before the election  they said by voting for Trump (Republican) the Supreme Court would overturn Row Vs Wade  abortion laws .   That was all most of them cared about.

Ugh, talk about your single issue voters, though... I voted for Candidate X because he promised free ice cream every Monday afternoon, which is important to me. He also promised to randomly shoot a thousand people in the face every day, but I can overlook that for free ice cream. It'll probably never happen to me.

Yeah. But it's a bigger population, so, on the normal curve of craziness there are a lot more people above the 5th (or whatever) standard deviation. Enough in fact to support a site like Breitbart, and to shout down any opposition on that site.

Prosperity Theology is an explanation.

It's also here in NZ - and I don't mean from the likes of Tamaki / Destiny fleecing the flock.

I suppose if you're the sort to be suckered into Brian Tamaki's orbit then you're probably also going to fall for the likes of Trump. They're cut from the same cloth.
