People get the government they deserve. If Americans actually elect this miserable sod another time, they fully deserve him.

That may be so - but does the rest of the world fully deserve him?

They don't get much more conservative than well-known and big-brained George Will.

"George Will: ‘Oleaginous’ Pence Tops Donald Trump As ‘Worst’ In Government | The Last Word | MSNBC

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Will

"oleaginous:
1. rich in, covered with, or producing oil; oily.

2. exaggeratedly and distastefully complimentary; obsequious."

+1

As as been said here before, "Be careful what you wish for".

If Trump is impeached or assassinated, we will have President Pence and a new set of problems.

The best we can hope for is that Trump and all his cronies will be booted out of office in 2020.

Roseanne Barr's one of Trump's highest profile supporters.

https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2018/may/29/how-the-right-is-defending-roseanne-barrs-racist-tweets

"How the right is defending Roseanne Barr's racist tweets

Shortly after ABC canceled the show, rightwing commentators were engaged in false equivalences and ‘mental gymnastics’

At least you can say the Roseanne reboot lasted longer than most members of the Trump administration. Only a couple of months after the premiere aired to one of the biggest TV audiences in years, the revived sitcom has been cancelled, following racist tweets by its eponymous star.

When the reboot of Roseanne was announced, most wrote it off as 90s nostalgia by a TV industry out of fresh ideas. But it was quickly claimed as a political victory by conservatives who saw the show’s portrayal of white working-class Trump-supporting America as a form of mainstream validation. Roseanne is far more than just a sitcom for a lot of Trump supporters – the show, along with its controversial star, is a symbol of what they stand for. Its cancellation comes as a blow to conservatives who had felt vindicated by the show’s huge viewing figures.

Some conservatives acknowledged that Roseanne’s tweets were indefensible. Tomi Lahren, a high-profile commentator who has previously compared the Black Lives Matter movement to the KKK, tweeted that: 'What Roseanne said was wrong. I’m sure she knows that. She made a mistake. I don’t know why fellow conservatives are playing mental gymnastics trying to justify it. Come on. Wrong is wrong.'

But many vocal rightwing personalities were quick to rush to Roseanne’s defense, often employing, as Lahren acknowledged, a variety of mental gymnastics to argue that the comedian’s tweets weren’t racist.

Singer Ted Nugent, said: 'So Roseanne referencing a movie title is racist. Lying dishonest soulless freaks from Planet of the Apes.'

Barr’s tweet had said the former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett was the 'baby' of 'Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes'.

Nugent’s denial of the racist connotations of comparing an African American woman to an ape was common among avowed Trump supporters. Bill Mitchell, one of Trump’s most prolific supporters on social media, tweeted that, in the Planet of the Apes, the apes were superior and so comparing Jarrett to an ape was not racist. Mitchell deleted the tweet shortly after posting it."

Trumps supporters are well-known for being hypocrites and reporting fake news.

Shortly after Roseanne's show was cancelled, she tweeted about Obama's Senior Advisor:

"Valerie Jarrett Stanford Yearbook: 'I was born Iranian of My Islamic Faith, I seek to help to change America to be a more Islamic country.'"

Debunked a long time ago of course, but apparently still being repeated by Trump supporters.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/make-america-more-islamic-quote/

"Did Valerie Jarrett Say She Wants to ‘Help Change America to Be a More Islamic Country’?"

"A spurious quote attributed to White House adviser Valerie Jarrett was supposed uttered during her time as an undergrad at Stanford University."

"... Attributed to Jarrett is a typical example, holding that while she was an undergraduate psychology student at Stanford University in 1977, she proclaimed herself to be an Iranian who sought “to help change America to be a more Islamic country” and she felt “like it is going well in the transition of using freedom of religion in America against itself”

Contrary to common rumor, however, neither Jarrett nor her parents are Iranian, nor (as far as we can tell) are any of them Muslim."

The apes in the original films are certainly superior to most Trump supporters. Even the gorillas. Especially the gorillas.

Republican House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy contradicts Trump.

"I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got," GOP congressman Gowdy said.

Like many other occasions he is getting involved where he should not. He says "The president has been pressing China to reduce the US$375b US goods trade deficit.  Ok, cool, great idea Don. How about telling YOUR citizens to stop buying Chinese???? Buy American. Its only probably 50% more expensive but thats ok.

Some classic comments today. Roseanne Barr tried to blame her misplaced tweet on a dose of Ambien, a sedative. The manufacturer's reply: "While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication."

Comedy gold. Roseanne ought to take lessons.

Trump, unable to withstand not being the centre of attention for even a brief time, made it all about him again:

"Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that 'ABC does not tolerate comments like those' made by Roseanne Barr," Mr Trump tweeted on Wednesday, referring to the former White House senior adviser.

"Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC."

What an anus that man is. He even looks like one.

I expect that the POTUS is going to come up with even more wild distractions while this is going on:

The FBI is piecing together shredded documents found in its raid of Michael Cohen's home and office while investigating President Trump's personal attorney for suspected financial crimes.

Prosecutors told a federal district judge on Wednesday that agents are working to reconstitute the contents of a shredder machine seized by the bureau during the raid.

CNN reported that there is not a large amount of shredded material.

The federal government has so far turned over 3.7 million seized documents for Cohen's attorneys to assess whether anything is privileged information. The FBI continues to pore over the shredded documents and an additional 19 storage devices including hard drives and thumb drives, as well as several Blackberry phones.

Michael Cohen is giving Washington fixers a bad name
Jill Abramson

"Michael Cohen has pulled off the seemingly impossible. He has actually sullied the meaning of the term Washington fixer.

I wasn’t the slightest bit surprised to see the sobriquet in a recent New York Times headline above a front-page story earlier this month: 'How Michael Cohen, Trump’s Fixer, Built A Shadowy Business Empire'.

For much of my career in journalism, I’ve specialized in covering Washington fixers, the lawyers, lobbyists and consultants who earn huge fees by selling their access to the powerful.

I’ve watched presidents, from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton, bring along their personal lawyers from back home to Washington, where these lawyers – the fixers – rotate through the capital’s infamous revolving door and earn millions opening doors to the rulers they once served.

While prostitution may be the oldest profession in much of the western world, in Washington the oldest profession is another form of prostitution: influence peddling.

Roseanne as POTUS.  LOL - could never happen...

She could have Kanye "slavery is a state of mind" West as running mate for VP - to prove that she's possibly the second least racist person you could ever meet.  Bonus that when she gets impeached, the public won't have to use greetings "blessed be the fruit / under his eye" as they may be forced to do between when they lock cheeto up and the 2020 election.

Had to smile at this as I've just finished watching episode 2/7 of The Handmaid's Tale. The difference being it's called Gilliard in the story rather than Pence-icola.
