Who says the end-of-worlders were stupid? Their bunkers may well get some use.

How about this "fellow new zealand citizen" making the US newspapers:

Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, who believes Google should be investigated for treason and once wrote that American democracy has been in decline since women won the right to vote, is investing heavily in two of the Kansas City region’s most ambitious political startups.

I had forgotten about that peach from the last Government.

Yep.  If you see a procession of Gulfstream and Dassault Falcon jets on flightradar24, all headed toward Central Otago, then you'll really know something's up.

I freely admit I know nothing of BBC policies. My gut feeling is that the BBC over-reacted to a complaint about Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty.

She had been found to have breached the BBC's guidelines over comments she made about a tweet from Donald Trump about four female politicians of colour.

Trump: So interesting to see 'progressive' Democrat congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful nation on earth, how our government is to be run.

Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.

"These places need your help badly, you can't leave fast enough. I'm sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

What did Naga Munchetty say in the first place?

Walker: It's the president. That was the most telling quote for me last night. I can't remember who said it, but she said, 'I've been told to go home many times to go back to where I've come from many times in my life, but never by the man sitting in the Oval Office'.

Munchetty: Every time I have been told, as a woman of colour, to go back to where I came from, that was embedded in racism. Now I'm not accusing anyone of anything here but you know what certain phrases mean.

Walker: Do you hear that quite regularly?

Munchetty: Yes. Not regularly, but I've been told it.

Walker: You're sitting here not giving an opinion, but how do you feel as someone when you've been told that before, and when you hear that from him?

Munchetty: Furious. Absolutely furious. And I imagine a lot of people in this country will be feeling absolutely furious that a man in that position feels it's OK to skirt the lines with using language like that.

Walker: Do you feel his use of that then legitimises other people to use this…

Munchetty: Yes. Yes.

Walker: As our guest was saying there, it feels like a thought-out strategy to strengthen his position.

Munchetty: And it is not enough to do it just to get attention. He's in a responsible position. Anyway I'm not here to give my opinion.

BBC director general Lord Hall has reversed the decision to partially uphold a complaint against her.

He told staff that Munchetty's words were not "sufficient to merit a partial uphold" of the complaint against her.

TRUMP SAYS IF THERE IS A CIVIL WAR HE WILL GET A NEW NOTE FROM PODIATRIST

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Shortly after tweeting that his impeachment could result in a civil war, Donald J. Trump clarified that, in the event of such a war, he would seek a new note from his podiatrist.

Trump issued the clarification after military advisers cautioned him that, after starting a civil war, he might reasonably be expected to participate in it.

Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn, Trump said, “Much as I would like to fight in a civil war, my very serious foot condition would keep me from doing that.”

Trump said that, although every other part of him was “extremely young and vibrant,” his feet “are in no condition to fight.”

He added, however, that the country should “think very carefully” before engaging in a civil war. “It would be very sad for the United States to have a civil war for the first time in its history,” he said.

Great Joe Bennett article in Stuff this morning. He matches Trump up with the psychiatric definition of a 'malignant narcissist'. Guess what? He matches absolutely perfectly! IMHO, that is!

MITCH MCCONNELL ANNOUNCES SENATE WILL CLOSE UNTIL 2021 FOR REPAINTING

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In a move that raised eyebrows in the nation’s capital, the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, announced on Monday that the United States Senate would be closed until the year 2021, “for repainting.”

Calling the current state of the Senate’s paint job “a national disgrace,” McConnell said that repainting the Senate was “the most urgent problem facing our democracy today.”

“The Democrats can waste their time with all their usual hijinks and tomfoolery, but I cannot stand idly by and watch the walls of this hallowed chamber grow dingy and chipped,” McConnell said.

The Kentucky Republican said that he had not yet selected the shade of white to be used to repaint the Senate, but aides indicated that he had narrowed the choices to Ivory, Seashell, and Mascarpone.

Although the proposed paint job would require the Senate to be on recess for the next fifteen months, McConnell could not guarantee that that would give Republican senators enough time to read the whistle-blower’s complaint.

The Washington Post - Pompeo, Democrats trade threats over impeachment depositions

October 1 at 3:23 PM

House Democrats leading the impeachment inquiry and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused each other Tuesday of trying to intimidate State Department officials called as witnesses in the probe.

Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight committees said any attempt by Pompeo to prevent Department officials from speaking to them “is illegal and will constitute evidence of obstruction,” according to a statement issued by Rep. Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.), who heads the foreign affairs panel.

The Democrats’ statement came after Pompeo informed them hours earlier that five State Department officials called to give depositions in the inquiry into President Trump’s actions regarding Ukraine over the next two weeks would not appear as scheduled this week.

Pompeo described the effort to depose the officials as “an attempt to intimidate, bully, and treat improperly, the distinguished professionals of the Department of State.” ...

It's a mixture of extreme optimism - "The wave is building that will sweep Trump from power" - and an accurate description of malignant narcissism, with Trump as the classic case - he meets all of the diagnostic criteria.

see: Donald Trump and The Definition of Insanity - Feb 16, 2017 - a 15 min read

John D. Gartner, who taught personality disorders at Johns Hopkins University for 28 years ... says Trump’s illness might be called “Dictator Personality Disorder.”

Malignant Narcissism often coincides with mild mania - the ability to consistently stay up all night obsessing on a project - which helps sufferers achieve high career status despite their cruel tendencies. Trump exhibits this, too.

“I’ve been a specialist in personality disorders for 35 years,” Gartner says. “Trump is the most severe case I’ve seen in my career.”

Been approaching since his first day in office. I'll believe it when I see it. Otherwise be prepared to see him reelected.
