To prove that a party/coalition puts the Country before self it would have been prudent to manage the media in a far better way. I was disgusted last night.

We heard clapping in the labour caucus which to me only indicated one thing....we had Winston come out declaring the world economy is taking a dive and that when it happens here NZ First isn't to blame..and then we wait a over an hour for the new PM elect to even front the media/NZ.

That was a circus that never needs to happen again. But wait it has......Jacinda this morning, rather than instilling confidence in "the people" agrees with Winston that our economy is going to take a hit. UNBELIEVABLE.

and I have just read Winston wants to burn what National has built to the ground.....so mature ....

From the time the writs were filled which gave the final result it took circa 10 days to form the Government for the next 1000 days that is not a debacle

The time it took was not my issue (though WP repeatedly changing his mind as to the timeframes was frustrating).

How it was presented at the end in prime time with the Leaders of both parties supposedly not told until it was announced in the press (which is a lie, as both leaders knew at least 1.5 hours before the final announcement) was the equivalent of a centre ring circus event.

This is what he did in 1996, he waited until the evening news hour to make his announcement. Nothing wrong with that IMHO, other than pissing of all the media wanting to be 'the first' with a headline/soundbite/live feed.

Cite for both leaders knowing at least 1.5 hours before the final announcement please, because I cant find any mention of it anywhere.

It happened that way in 1996 as well when Winston supported National on to the government benches.  He waited until the evening news to make his announcement. Did you complain then?

IMHO there was nothing wrong with the way the announcement happened. He (and no one else) ever have to 'manage' the media, that smacks of manipulated news to me.

As to you obvious dislike of the outcome and our new government you're entitled to an opinion on that...  (nothing more needs to be said)

I also saw the journalist update that the applause was for Family Feud. Those who want to think the worst will look for any possible reason to do so. Blindly assuming the applause means one thing without any attempt at verification or fact-checking does not speak very highly of those making the assumption. This is the essence of fake news. Make up whatever you want to believe to support your (unfounded) preconceptions. Gee, your prejudices are showing.

To those of you who cant accept what has happened this is what a democracy is all about You need to get over it and move on.  Go and find something else to challenge yourselves because bringing up all sorts of reasons why and how things took place has no relevance any more. Some of you are showing hatred towards what has happened ( my opinion). You have a great foe in the Great Mike Hoskings go and have a coffee with him perhaps that will make you feel better. Listen to what BE said and move on.  I started this post it is a shame I haven't some way of stopping it as we are just going round and round and getting nowhere.

I stay on the fence, can't care less who gets the half million dollar job, the sky is still blue today and every light at the end of my tunnel is still someone bringing me more work.

However I must point out, I have read a few social media threads and the sentiment is reciprocated! Heaps of people are taking the opportunity to bag and skin the National MPs.

I think this country is made up of 4 kinds of people - the haves who work hard, the have nots who work hard, the haves who don't do any work, the have nots who don't do any work. The similarity between each of them? One vote. They all had one vote.

If it had gone to National, I would have expressed my genuine disappointment, added congratulations to those who wanted that result, and asked how we could work together under this reality to bring about the best possible outcome for all of New Zealand. Sometimes that can mean asking critical questions. But to start by crying 'we are doomed!' doesn't seem very helpful to me. It is a mean-spirited response. New Zealand deserves better.

What I'd really like to know though, are the content and details of the negotiation ... that would give me something to do while I wait on the new policies, new systems, new school curriculum, new tax, and yes where to get my free money.

The clapping thing may have just been a speech given by JA to everyone thanking them for their efforts no matter which way things went. In that climate JA could have said she was shouting everyone a beer and it would have caused clapping.

We will never know if that is true, but I have my serious doubts about it given your responses to other things.

I strongly disagree that NZ will be better for this coalition, and I won't pretend I feel differently to make the sensitive souls feel better. It's not sour grapes despite what you might believe. Plenty of people had plenty of negative things to say about National, it's the nature of being in power. Expect strong opposition to Labour given that for the first time in NZ History, the party with the largest number of votes is in opposition.

I am however not disputing the result, nor am I saying it's because of a gaming of the system, nor am I suggesting it was formed illegally.

I will say, however, that I am impressed that JA did manage to wrangle this deal with WP. It's somewhat of a good start, though we will probably never know if it was her negotiating skills or WP's desire to not form with National.

I did not claim there was a conspiracy. I (Incorrectly apparently but not inappropriately) joined the dots that not long before the announcement, there was clapping and laughter from inside the Labour Caucus and then there was a Labour Government formed. Who knew that the Caucus would be watching TV! I would have thought there would be more important things to do.

What really happened here was that Jacinda was greedier than Bill. She chose to offer the devil more than National was prepared to.

With Labour providing the Speaker gives a very precarious government with a very strong opposition. Good luck to her. Although with so much assistance given by my previous posters she will have no problem succeeding.
