I read this article.. and I wish that NZTA would make it mandatory for drivers to have electronic drivers logs that track distance/GPS of truck & time etc can can be monitored independently..

Good on him. There's not many kiwis that push back on that kind of thing. It"s exceptional for someone on a work visa.

Electronic logs are how it works in Europe, you have a Chip card, the truck won't start without it.

I work for a company that tracks trucks and does ERUC.
These guys I know have a GPS product from one of the ERUC players in their trucks, this would reflect any discrepancies and be very evident, with 5 crashes you bet these guys have had some audits done, surprised given these claims in that article they are still operating...

 

NZTA audit means these guys would need to surrender all truck movement logs which show running times and so fourth. It would be blatantly oblivious if the law was being broken.
