Corrin dan talked to some well versed Islamic women on a 1:1 show I forget the name of.

They said the same straight to him when he asked about the trial. Their reply was Media have a responsibility in regards to it. And she challenged them to restraint and to make the difference. If it turned out it was his intention to not gratify it.

Violent assault is blasting someone with a firearm, or smashing your partner in the face, or going after someone with a bat. An egg is not a weapon. It is a statement. It can't hurt anyone. I am all in favour of it as a measured response to someone like that racist a-hole. Just look at the discussion it has engendered! A million signatures! No polite words could have achieved that.

That's a disappointing response. I'd have thought better of you. It was a violent action taken in anger. The law obviously agrees as he has been charged. He will get a slap with a wet bus ticket.

We are heading down a slipperly slope once we start with the "ends justify the means" discussion.

Always interesting how we can watch the same video and come to vastly different conclusions. There is no way I can categorize an egging as ‘violent’.

The definition involves to hurt damage or kill. He didn’t kill him and the only thing hurt or damaged is Annings reputation. Will probably end up as a misdemeanor or something.

Anning also needs to be charged. His actions were hardly self defense. Lashed out twice in anger on a teenager that was obviously intent on filming his reaction.

If Anning has any sense he would drop the case. Be the man.

MSD have just sent out emails offering financial help for those with expenses relating to Friday. That's quite good. I didn't expect it to be a mass email, more targeted to the families? And possibly directly? But in any case, good to see.

If anyone feels egging is fine, please send me your name and work number, we can arrange on Monday to get your colleagues, preferably someone from a rival company, best if it were your teenager's boyfriend. When you are in your best attire at 11 am on Monday we will arrange for them to smash a carton of eggs on any part of your body they so choose to. Should be fine. No hard feelings ok.

There used to be a guy who went around pie-ing prominent people. I remember he got Bill Gates once in Belgium.

I don't believe you can change the thinking of people who have already gone down this path. But you can take their megaphones away, and you can isolate and minimise them and make it loud and clear what is wrong with their ideas.

Isolation is what I believe lead to this attack.

It would be very interesting to me to see what the gunmans views on his crimes are 20 years and 40 years from now.

You are missing the point. He clearly wasn't isolated from the poison that fed his thinking or the audience he was broadcasting to.

Says she is, or actually is?

It's probably not for this thread, but I often wonder how long a particular action, spoken word or whatever should haunt someone for. Obviously, mass murder aside.  When I see people doing good work now, and then someone finds a horrendous video from 15 years ago and people are calling for resignations etc....

I often think back to my younger years and truly cringe at what I thought, or may have said. I would hate to be judged by that today, because a) I am genuinely different and feel differently now b) because whilst at the time those actions didn't seem harmful or bad, I didn't have the experience, alternative perspective and resources to see what I can see now.

I expect a few years from now, things may be different again.

Context is important (eg killing in self defence vs a planned execution). So randomly egging someone to prove a point about someone else egging someone else? Nope.

I definitely feel Annings actions and words were much more harmful than the egging he received.
