Typical Facebook.  If you read what they say, they did nothing effective at the time, still can't, and in terms of their "aspirational" pledges, zilch.

Facebook needs to be shut down/split up/heavily regulated.

I hate to say it, but "murica".  No problem sending an FBI team half-way around the planet, helicopters, whatever, to "deal with" KDC hosting copyright infringing material.

With facebook's hosting and facilitating truly destructive evil, then we get basically nothing at all, a press release to placate shareholders - but which doesn't contain an apology or admission that they f%cked up big time, and a pile of aspirational BS.

The problem isn't in how facebook operate - it's actually what facebook is.

That's a disappointing response. I'd have thought better of you. It was a violent action taken in anger. The law obviously agrees as he has been charged. He will get a slap with a wet bus ticket.

We are heading down a slipperly slope once we start with the "ends justify the means" discussion.

Generally, the only slippery slope I see when people use slippery slope arguments (Google it if you haven't worked out why slippery slope arguments are usually terribly flawed) is the precipitous drop in the quality of the debate. Grasp at some other straws already.

what impressed me today, yesterday, Sunday.... Friday is that those who doubted that Jacinda Ardern was a Prime Minister or Leader were wrong. I include myself in that group.

But at least they took the content down albeit slowly. Certain Cloudflare hosted sites still have the video freely for download and celebrate having it while telling people to f..koff if requested to take it down.

Hence why those sites are very simplistically blocked via DNS.

The idiot's Youtube channel and sole video are still up. I guess Youtube isn't the slightest bit interested in living by the "Don't be evil!" line.

Tough guy posting nasty comments about the attack cries and then runs away from the media

It's funny how these guys are never quite as brave once their face is in front of the camera.

Yep. YouTube is near impossible to get content removed unless it's not a notable entity pushing it..

It's the social repercussions they vastly underestimate. It's not just the law they need to be weary of. Their job is at risk as well especially if the company they work for employs a diverse group.

More praise from US media ...

The New York Times - Why Jacinda Ardern Matters

March 19, 2019

New Zealand’s prime minister is emerging as the progressive antithesis to right-wing strongmen like Trump, Orban and Modi, whose careers thrive on illiberal, anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand — Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister of New Zealand, has been exemplary in her response to the massacre in Christchurch, where 50 Muslims were killed in two mosques by an Australian white supremacist and his accomplices. ...
