There's a way to discuss whether a Maori health authority is a good idea without racist dog whistling to all the closet red necks.
Yeah but that would require National to skillfully craft a thought-provoking narrative... a bit of a tall order considering where they're currently at, crying "she's a liar!" like some eight year old kid.
National have collapsed into a bleach-induced stupor. You have a police spokesman saying support for cannabis is promoting "misery"... well... again nearly half of kiwis voted for it so I guess he's never heard of "read the room" lol. Its truly baffling to see the stupid @#$% they say on camera.
I have privately heard a National official saying they are not worried & the pendulum will just swing back to the right, but I'm not convinced that we aren't seeing a slow death over the next decade.
I wonder if the National person was thinking, "they'll have had 2 terms of Labour by then and be sick of them, so of course everyone is going to vote for us!". Or not.
Handle9: The pendulum will inevitably swing, the question is when. The same sort of things were said about labour during the early 2010s and they came back as did national after 2002. It's how long it takes them to come up with some sort of coherent message.
Possibly but society has changed a lot from even 10 years ago. Nations are becoming increasingly liberal & progressive and that's not going to change. Distrust of right wingers is also at an all time high after so many of them horribly botched the pandemic response. That experience could have more sway on people's opinion of what they expect from politicians going forward - might not matter what the message is if the messenger doesn't measure up.
What will happen to National, indeed.
Good. This racist crap needs to stop.
So, masses of bitter "mom and pop" property investors / landlords haven't deserted the PM and switched sides.

It’s very reassuring to see that the divisive, racist approach has gained Collins and National no favour. There is always a sector of society that kind of rubbish appeals to but I am glad this poll would indicate it’s no longer a very big sector.
It’s also reassuring that the opposition for opposition’s sake/we don’t like the government’s idea but haven’t got any ourselves approach isn’t paying any dividends either.

As opposed to making up fairy tales to get elected and not delivering on them. Much better.
I like fairy tales. They have happy endings.

Ask those who can't buy a house right now or the kids still in poverty how happy their endings are.

LOL. 4 Years is not instantaneously.
I saw an item just the other day that child poverty has actually been reduced. I don't recall the exact source or the degree of reduction. I think it was a statistical comparison. I also saw another article, I think on CNN, that house prices have exploded throughout the developed world as an unexpected consequence of Covid. The average rate of increase seems to be about 20%. It is kind of hard to blame all that on the New Zealand government.
