JaseNZ:

Have a board with no rural members cause it's all about the white collars.

Even then the Nats are doing a terrible job at advocating for any middle class professional who doesn't own an investment property.

Yes, they're in a good place on rural issue thanks to the Government's weird as hell water reforms and the emissions on vehicles feebate scheme is lacking a bit of natural justice, but even as a white collar, Auckland-based professional, there's literally nothing there that they offer me, other than the right to terrorise my children based on what I think their gender should be.

The trade-offs I'd be making is even more expensive housing, population pressure and a lack of infrastructure (apart from superhighways in rural areas).

Not exactly the deal of the century, is it?

Peter Goodfellow needs to go in my opinion, and I agree with the Young Nats that letting Gay Conversion Therapy ban reach select committee is a reasonable idea and then debate it there makes more sense.

In my experience however, it doesn't really seem to matter how bad the Government is, right now, most of NZ, has their fingers in their ears not wanting to hear about it. I agree Labour are profoundly vulnerable on so many topics, but even reasoned attempts to have a discussion, get shouted down as 'opposing for the sake of it' which is nonsense. My guess is that we need to wait out the typical cycle of people getting sick of being told what to do by whatever party is in power and people stop voting that way.

I don't however, understand National not spending some time coming up with some decent policy.

Rural votes are seen as potentially swinging (I believe they swung Labours way as the lesser of 2 evils compared to a Greens/Labour Coalition, which I think would have been a disaster), and I expect Winston Peters to hit that hard shortly in an attempt to regain Kingmaker role. Shane Jones, however, makes my skin crawl.

I wonder why they kept that Peter bloke on - I understood he was the driving force behind picking such wonderful candidates as Todd Barclay, Andrew Falloon, Jake Bezzant. Yep, he's really doing a great job for National...not.

The natural assumption is he knows where the bodies are buried, probably helped bury a few. A few gentle reminders of that and most of the decision makers fall in line.

Not really. Endless carping is unpopular.

Proposing alternatives that are viable positions gets attention and support. That's what's happened with ACT, they are focused on policy rather than sideshows and bitching. They are getting support as a result.

Oh but didn't you hear! According to Judith, "everyone" is talking to her about the "issues" she's hellbent on raising. Apparently.

Collins is a perfect example of a politician who always wanted a job they are totally unsuited for.

David Bennett for Transport. Good God. I would have thought an Aucklander or a Wellingtonian should be a lock for something like that.

No amount of reshuffling is going to help them.

I thought he was on the way out anyway? Is he staying on until the next election, or leaving early, or...?

Isn't that the blanket National party transport policy though? All traffic problems can be solved with more roads!

This is when Todd Muller tried to do it as leader (Gerry looks really pained throughout most of this):
https://www.facebook.com/RadioNewZealand/videos/live-national-party-leader-todd-muller-speaks-to-media/1456945011144617/

I also noticed another MP standing next to him who wouldn't be with the party for much longer either.
