A few interesting contenders here, including Simon himself.

I wonder if Judith is trying everything she can from her box of tricks to hang onto the leadership.

Classic politics, create distractions away from the real problem.

Stu: One removed from the list of possible challengers?

This is nothing do with inappropriate comments and everything to do with heading off a leadership challenge.

Collins set a standard. Can't really disagree with that. The question I have is - was Collins responding to a report of a more recent incident? Clearly a longshot for Collins if entirely based on a 2017 incident. If Collins' action was not based entirely on the 2017 incident then the National Party caucus has badly misjudged this.

GV27: Collins goneski.

Radio says Collins states she has no plans to step aside and will continue to represent Papakura.

8:10am - Judith Collins has told Newshub she will still be leader by the end of the day.

12:30pm - Stuart Smith told Newshub Shane Reti is the interim leader while they decide who is leader. It appears a decision will be made next week, with it down to Mitchell and Luxon.

The best laid plans, eh? Handle9 is in for quite a surprise when he wakes up.

Catching up on this. Apparently this started yesterday evening at 9PM with a press release from Judith Collins saying something along the lines that she just learned of the 2017 allegation and made a decision to drop Bridges based on that.

this will do down in history as one of the worst/best cases of political suicide ever carried out by a political leader.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

She started the whole death by a thousand cuts years ago. She's just not cut to be a leader (pun not intended).

I don't get it, this morning she was insistent she would be leader, then she said she knew making this issue public would cost her the leadership.

Is she here or there (or nowhere)?

She is nowhere now be interesting what she says over the next few days.

She might re-stand for her seat but I doubt she would get it.

She’d be quids in to retain Papakura as National candidate if she wants to stay. She’s been a pretty popular local MP for many years.
