GV27:

This is Luxon's first test of people management and he isn't doing much inspiring tbh.

I think he knows this story has already lost traction so he doesn’t really have to do anything.

With the previous leader having exerted her authority with a fist of ham rather than iron (she felt the need to tell us she was the boss/leader), Luxon is right to tread lightly here, at least in public.  If Hirango continues to act in this way then Luxon has other options.

I guess the other thing to remember is the PM was seen as being incredibly soft on the David Clark lockdown breach fiasco so I doubt they will be making much notice about this.

What I don't get is how she's done this twice now - first saying she (somehow) had no idea what the protest was about...the signs weren't clear enough??

And then it happens again?

Mind you, John Key gave Judith Collins about a zillion "final warnings" before anything happened to her.

Edit: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/national-mp-who-took-selfie-with-protesters-claimed-sinister-motive-behind-governments-covid-powers/DFAFWVBMNCT4R2YA47NFPGBRDM/ (paywalled) some commentary from David Fisher at the Herald about the situation.

Well the PM had multiple major failures with Phil Twyford and David Clark and resisted doing anything at all until the constant bad publicity forced her hand. All political parties are the same, deny, deny, deny until the damage to the party becomes untenable.

Twyford never actually got the arse for anything - he even got promoted before the 2020 election on the Labour list. It was mind-boggling.

Yeah, a lack of talent/experience across Labour probably had something to do with that. Luckily for them the Nats were in complete disarray anyway so no better.

An opposition party being in disarray is generally shit for accountability.

The governing party being in disarray because they had no actual method of executing the platform they were elected on is a handbrake on the entire country.

One is a lot worse for the country than the other. Still waiting on that Light Rail that was meant to be finished by now.

(paywalled) a profile on Harete Hipango and why she's possibly on her way out of Parliament:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/how-harete-hipango-got-offside-with-national-mps-correcting-te-reo-and-taking-lead-on-issues-that-belonged-to-others/FSQJAACAQRHYA7F5RUDJXXHTJA/

(recalling that she only came back in because Nick Smith was made to leave).

Harete Hipango strikes again, this time getting one of her staff to edit her personal Wikipedia page because all the bad things she's done are causing her "distress" and are "untrue", although I don't know what would be untrue exactly...and if she didn't do stupid things in the first place...

I think it’s fairly silly to bother with Wikipedia at all, how many people look at a Wikipedia page before deciding on who to vote for???

Likewise whoever is editing her page to include the ‘bad stuff’ she has done is fairly silly as well, I think if you really believe it’s changing anything you are likely either a bit of a loony with too much time on your hands or an employee of a political party, often being very little difference between the two.

More of interest is the lengths an MP is prepared to go to to eradicate that which no longer fits her political narrative.  Ultimately though the picture of Hipango is not of a team player.  Its a matter of time...

Yep, that's what I was thinking too. All that is viewable in the history of the page edits anyway, so she's not hiding anything really.
