Luxon accused of spreading misinformation:

Did you read that article before posting it? It's not what you are clearly hoping it is.

I skimmed it, but probably should have read it more thoroughly.

Interesting idea. I can see businesses probably lapping this up, the general public? Maybe not so much.

The piper needs to be paid regardless, so I guess the public needs to ask itself where the $450M in extra costs is being recouped from?

Does not look like good math though. Seems they have only done the "one less day is 450M less productivity" calculation, and not added extra revenue from tourism during the holiday and the fact that people working 4 days in a 5 day week not necessarily means loss of 1 day of productivity.

How do you quantify those numbers? They are unknown and I'd imagine pretty small relatively.

First a double down (I'll skip that) and then a U-turn..

Christopher Luxon will not axe Labour Day

Foot in mouth twice in a row now? Mind you, people make mistakes all the time - and it doesn't seem to be affecting his popularity either:

While I realise Luxon has walked back his comments about getting rid of Labour Day, is there another holiday we could get rid of instead?

I wouldn't want any of them to go, but if forced to choose, would be either the regional anniversary days or the day after new years day

I'd be happy swapping Queens Birthday for Dominion Day (26 September) just to help spread things around a bit, but still retaining that Crown link you might lose by moving Queens Birthday for something else.

At least it would spread the load a bit.

I think its already observed in South Canterbury. But I think the theme is remove a holiday to save money. Many to choose from

I had a feeling he might say this sort of thing - "don't tax the rich! They're my friends!" 😄
