https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/john-macdonald-two-commentators-one-message-why-christopher-luxon-is-struggling/HSGNUUQ6UZ2CA5IRDHPHZP4EOY/

A look at Luxon's performance recently from both political angles (left and right).

Thanks for that link. I just read it and found it very interesting. It does a pretty good job of describing my own feelings about Luxon. I also think Nicola Willis would make a much better opposition leader. She comes across as knowledgeable, confident and credible.

Very little to offer anyone who is earning under $180K a year, doesn't have a rental and doesn't have a chip on their shoulder about young people.

I mean I get that intra-election-year conferences are for the base. But they walked back on their indexing of brackets to inflation plan this week and had nothing to offer to replace it.

It's like they've forgotten they have to win votes from normal people.

Oh dear, more candidate selection woes for national.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300656643/national-mp-sam-uffindell-asked-to-leave-prestigious-kings-college-after-violent-nighttime-attack-on-younger-boy

The candidate told national about this skeleton in his closet............... and they still selected him. smh.

The party of Aaron Gilmore rides again 😠

The National Party had been aware of the incident when he joined, he said, and were grateful he had disclosed it to them.

So grateful that they put him forward as their candidate? Peter Goodfellow leaves behind an interesting legacy re National's candidate choices.

Someone does something stupid at school and now he's being hung out to dry by our media. Arderns advertising army must be worried about the latest polls to go trudging though history digging up dirt

100% this, should everyone that does some bullying at 16 years old be hung out to dry the same way?

IMO 16 year olds do dumb stuff, we can’t go around crucifying them for the rest of their lives. It turns out he came back to New Zealand after however long he was working overseas, looked the guy up and went and apologised again for what he had done.

Latest poll results mean the left have to find anything to grizzle about rather than dropping polls

Except for the fact that he waited until he wanted to get into politics, then suddenly decided (22 years later) he should apologise? And because it was a long time ago it means nothing? Obviously not to the poor guy he set upon. Hell, I was 16 once too but I don't remember wanting to take to someone with bed legs and beating them up when I was at high school - and I went to high school with some really nasty people.

But because it wasn't either of you two, I guess it's all good, right?

As someone who also endured constant bullying at high school, trust me, this crap takes a long time to go away, if at all - something even Nicola Willis alludes to here: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/national-party-leadership-learned-of-tauranga-mp-sam-uffindells-dormitory-attack-yesterday-nicola-willis/PQQ2MI3SRZPFJ5GL5SZR4EP4MA/

I'm more concerned that neither herself nor Luxon knew about this until yesterday.

Has Labour got any chance of arresting this slide? National and ACT sitting pretty with majority of support.

"An upswing in support for ACT could see it working with National to form a Government, the latest 1News Kantar Public Poll results suggest.  Meanwhile, Labour and Jacinda Ardern continue to dip, with the party sitting at its lowest level for five years.

Despite also suffering a drop, National remains ahead on 37%, down 2 percentage points on May’s results.  Its leader Christopher Luxon fell by 3 percentage points in the preferred PM ratings to 22% and he stays behind Ardern, who also fell 3 to 30%.

ACT increased its support by 4 to 11%, back up to where it sat in January. If reflected in the election due in 2023, together ACT and National could form a Government with 62 seats.

Labour's fall to 33% (down 2) sees its support continue to dwindle, as it has done through the year. In March, the party fell to levels it had not seen since 2017. Then, it fell even further in May, down to 35% - its lowest in 1News polls since Andrew Little led the party. Labour is a full 10 percentage points down from where it sat in September last year at 43%."

A large portion of that is the cost of living. World leaders everywhere are being blamed (somewhat unfairly) for it at the moment.

Anything could change between now and the election. I note that National's polling has somewhat plateaued as of late, but as I say anything could change.

I note you ignored my comments on the school bully, instead deflecting to the latest polling results. Whataboutism at its finest right there.

Note that none of this inspires me to vote National. I didn't hear much, if anything, from Luxon about what he would do about the cost of living situation if he was running the show.

When I hear people displaying discontent with Labour, not many are using Cost of living as the main reason. Years of talk and next to no do, is the main issue.

Haha, Why should I even bother replying when I posted my thoughts above yours?

Labour just paid out cost of living payments to "around" 2 million people. Labour's issues are 5 years of non delivery and poor governance
