I know, just seems blatantly unfair to me, they screwed up their selection process and now I as a taxpayer have to pay for it. But let's see if it goes to another by-election or not.

Peter Dunne had an opinion piece around this on Newsroom this morning: https://www.newsroom.co.nz/labour-grateful-for-nationals-continuing-distractions

Well some of this definitely rests on the voters in Tauranga. I mean they didn't have to vote for this guy in the by-election.

Pray tell how can you blame voters when they don't know?

The average voter can only work with the information given out on the campaign and with their general allegiance at party level.

I dare say there's a few Nat supporters who are feeling a bit let down right now.

I can't see a way around that. There will be some clear cut cases where the candidate is a criminal but in cases like sam uffindell where he becomes persona non grata, there is scope for going to court to avoid paying.

If sam uffindell really felt guilty he could buy an ambulance or something.

I think given what's come to light around his past (appalling) behaviours, I don't see a lot of redemption for him now. Luxon doing a review is necessary, but unfortunately for Sam, I feel it's only going to drag things out and make the end result worse.

Actually, this thread isn't called the bash National thread, it's just what seems to happen by the 'left' supporters, similar to what happens in the other thread by the 'right' I'd suggest.

My 'defense' of them was in relation to the fact you claimed that only National are guilty of similar offences and mishandling of things, which is clearly untrue.

Sorry, where did I say only National were guilty of this? I believe (by which I mean I know, because I went back and checked) that my exact words were “ All sides of politics play dirty, but one party in particular really seems to play a bit dirtier and bit more often (and more recently) than the other….”

Then I went ahead and listed a bunch of Labour scandals, so I’m not sure what the point is that you’re trying to make. If you’re accusing me of being partisan, you’re quite off the mark and I’d challenge you to take a quick look in the mirror.

It is the bash National thread as is the other, the bash Labour thread. Hence why I dont bother anymore. The metric is who bashes more? More so, who is aggrieved more.

A satirical (and quite amusing) look at the events of the week around Sam Uffindell, from Steve Braunias's point of view.

More time required? This could bode well...but (more likely) could also be bad.

At least they actually held an investigation!

I'd much rather they take extra time and get the correct result.

While I'm pleased Luxon says he wouldn't go anywhere near Brian Tamaki (thank God), I'm a bit surprised it's taken him a week or so to do it.

He had to wait for the polling and focus groups to report in before he could make the call.

I presume that's a tongue in cheek comment. We're not talking about the Labour party here, who only just yesterday proved once again their policy is determined by public opinion.

Opinion piece from Peter Dunne on the optics of Luxon taking so long to (eventually) rule out working with Tamaki.
