gzt:
The claims of higher youth crime are an outright falsehood as far as I can work out.

LOL! Of course the numbers of youths facing charges are dropping when they are not being caught by a viciously understaffed police force and the fact that when they are caught they get a slap on the wrist. Only 37% of ram raid cases charged in the last 12 months...  I mean look at the woeful fleeing driver policy!

Just to prove a point, how about we look at the number of incidents caused by youths..?

"The scale of the spike in ram raids has been laid out in internal police documents obtained by Newshub.

In the first six months of this year, there have been 254 ramraids - that's a 518 percent increase on the first six months of 2018.

A police report analysing a year of ram raids found 76 percent were committed by youths under 17 years old and 17 percent were under 13 years old. From cars barging into malls, a 7-tonne digger ploughing into a petrol station, to liquor shop owners arming themselves, ram raids have been on the rise.

To find out why, police compiled a year's worth of data until the end of October last year. Obtained by Newshub, the report found that of the 283 ram raids, police had identified offenders in 42 percent of the cases and enforcement action was taken in 37 percent.

Thirty-eight repeat offenders were responsible for about a quarter of the ram-raids and almost one in five of the offenders were under 13.

Agree there's no doubt about that. You're quoting an article from July. Recent articles state the numbers have reduced since then and continue to fall.

Where police have identified the offenders that is excellent. That is certainly a much better identification and resolution record compared to domestic burglary. I assume this is partly the case due to the number of cameras on many commercial premises and in commercial areas.

LOL again, its pretty easy to drop from an increase of 518% Regardless current numbers are still much higher than 2018 and thats the main point here. Youth crime is a LONG way from a what was it again oh yes you called it an "outright falsehood"

Looks like they're on track to comfortably win Hamilton West.

Ah well. At least Sharma didn't win - he's going to come in 4th, by the looks of it. Guess he wasn't quite as popular as he thought he was.

Sharma has his faults but my God Labours treatment of him and his concerns disgusted me. Transparent and honest my backside.

What qualities of the others did you prefer other than they were wearing a Blue jumper?

I'd like to see some proof of what he has alleged happened. So far he has provided very little - although I agree with you that Labour could have handled it better.

There is a very simple and totally effective acid test here.

Sharma claims he was mistreated, denied due process and at the face of it, seems to have been, given Labour has failed to open an investigation and basically shut him down. If he did the things he says he didnt and Labour was innocent of the transgressions he accuses of them, what did they have to lose from opening said investigation. He was happy for it to be made public, the truth would above come out. Why was Labour unprepared to do this. It's basic employment premise to fully investigate claims of this nature.

National had an exceptional list of candidates in Hamilton West. It remains to be seen if National can maintain quality around the country like that.

Labour's organization in Hamilton West would have been hard hit by Sharma leaving. Voter turnout for this by-election was a record low. There's every chance Labour will swing it back at the general election.

Maaate, your dreamin

Labour would have to perform another fairy dust miracle, similar to 2017 to shift the antiestablishment sentiment that exists at the moment. Crime up, economy down, health screwed, education a shambles and country nicely segmented with identity politics doing its damage. Whomever is in Govt with indicators like these have an almighty hill to climb to con the voters that they can do better

That or another disaster they can distract the public. Right now, whilst not everything is Labours fault certainly, their lack of delivery, lack of planning and lack of execution is front and center.
