There was an interview with one of the other main Russian leaders, maybe Peskov.
One question was 'what happens after Putin', and the answer was 'another Putin'.
Apparently in Russia its Putins all the way down?

So maybe the doubles have a future life as puppets to KGB/FSB.

Putin and Co are scared of any opponent, so Yekaterina Duntsova barred from contesting the election.

Yekaterina Duntsova was disqualified from running for president against Putin by the Central Election Commission. This is her New Year address to the people of Russia.
- People must reclaim their agency and find strength in numbers.
- End the war.

""
I promise you that I will do everything in my power to return life in our country back to normal without "special operations" and repressions.
with an accountable government that will work to develop the economy and improve well-being of ordinary families.
""
If we unite, we will acquire the strength to overcome any difficulties and will be able to determine our own future.
And then people will stop dying.
""

With this alternative New Year message, I expect she is in great danger.

Another Russian ship is taken out by those impressive Ukrainian sea drones.

It's only a corvette, but hey

Charter97.org: 1st Rank Captain Explains How They Sank Caesar Kunikov Large Landing Ship

Ukraine sinks Russia’s Ceasar Kunikov warship in the Black Sea using Magura boat drones

Ukraine has sunk yet another Russian warship in the Black Sea using boat drones.

Project 775 Ropucha-I-class large landing ship Ceasar Kunikov was blown to pieces overnight February 13th using Magura V5 naval drones near the coast of Crimea. Video shows the drones inflicted heavy damage on the left side of the ship moments before it sunk. It comes just two weeks after they sunk the $70M Ivanovets missile corvette also using drones. Ukraine has managed to drive Russia’s feared Black Sea Fleet away from its shores despite not having a navy.

This is real david v goliath stuff. The drones are a simple idea - speed boats with remote control - so they should be 'easy' to defend against.

But they're painted black and used at night and perhaps in certain sea conditions which make them even harder to spot. Since the defenders have nothing more high tech than deck mounted machine guns for defence and the drones are usually used in multiples, bingo, the Russians have another successful submarine operation.

The Czech Republic is sending 800,000 artillery shells to Ukraine.

And Denmark said today they are sending ALL the artillery they have.

The NY Times - Hungary approved Sweden’s NATO bid

breaking

After more than a year and a half of stalling, Hungary’s Parliament voted yesterday to approve Sweden as a new member of NATO.

The move allows Sweden to clear the final hurdle that had blocked its membership. It comes at a critical time for the alliance, which has been trying to isolate Russia over its war in Ukraine.

The parliamentary vote followed a decision by Sweden to provide Hungary with four Swedish-made Gripen fighter jets and a promise that Saab, which manufactures the warplanes, would open an A.I. research center in Hungary.

Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, who has maintained cordial relations with President Vladimir Putin, has a long record of using Hungary’s veto power over key decisions in Europe to try to extract money or rewards.

The long, drawn-out process to get to this point is likely to leave a bitter aftertaste, and will not quickly change Orban’s reputation as a troublemaker more interested in cozying up to Putin than in supporting the alliance.

Now that some time has passed, we can take a look at the support provided for the Ukraine (unfortunately only in German, but the graphic is self-explanatory). It should be noted that the USA has a population of 331,449,281 and Germany 84,607,000.

… and if you run after the wrong messiah and put the wrong crosses in the US ballot box, NATO has completely different problems. This is being played out here with no small probability.

I was listening to a BBC discussion on Ukraine the other day and one of the commentators likened Putin to Stalin.

The Russian expert in the discussion disagreed saying he was nothing like Stalin. He's more like Pablo Escobar.

It puts Putin firmly in his place. A little man who can only hold onto power using violence and intimidation and destined to be consigned to the dustbin of history.

I was looking for a Navalny thread but this will have to do. According to his widow, he will be buried in Moscow on Friday. If Western leaders really do believe what they say about Putin and his roll in Navalny's death, why don't they all turn up en masse at the funeral? Would that not make a powerful statement? They don't have to say or do anything, just be there. I believe they can just enter the country on their diplomatic passports. Nothing has to be arranged in advance, though it would be highly unusual. It is called walking the talk, or putting your money where your mouth is. It might also force a little restraint on the part of the police.

The security detail needs to be coordinated locally. Armed security people need special approval from local government to carry weapons.

Not as easy as you think.

You mean the heads of state that a country run by an indicted war criminal is in a proxy war with fly into the capital of said country? I've heard of worse ideas, just can't think of any of them at the moment.

Plus Russia has been claiming much of the time that its been shooting down its own planes.
Trigger happy Air Defense.

Then there is the worry each time you change your underwear, use deodorant, have some tea or eat.
