My wife wants a new phone.  More particularly, she wants my pearl 8110.  I currently have it on a BES plan through vodafone but im thinking of moving to a WM device.  No issues here as I have previously had WM devices (SP2, Jasjar, Jasjam )and my exchange is all set up for activesync etc.

My wife only wants a phone to make calls and send txts and take the odd snapshot but really likes the look and  form factor of the pearl.

If I cancel the BES plan, put her voda sim into the pearl and tun off data services on the device, will it still operate and will she be able to sned txts and receive calls.  Just to be clear, she does not require / use email or web on her phone.

many thanks.

My brother in law is using it on prepay with no problems. He can't PXT however as I think you need "service packs" or something similar. He has never had it connected on account. Apart from the PXTing issue he is happy with it.

I think your wife would love some accessories to go with her new Blackberry! Wink I remember now that it was service books that were required. There is a good post here http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/index.php?showtopic=1177 (sorry this is a link to another forum)

Cheers,

Matt.

Thanks - so it appears that the only thing that she wont be able to do is MMS.  Cant see that as a problem and I can save myself $30 a month by cancelling the BES plan.

I wonder how many accessories for my wifes new Blackberry $30 a month would buy......Wink

As far as I can tell if you don't reset it to factory defaults it should hold the service books with the prepay sim. If reset it will require an on account sim to reinstall the service books.

Thankyou for linking to my post, I am glad it was useful :)

There can be some strange circumstances for services going missing, but often putting a BB enabled SIM back in will resolve it.

My bro in law spent a few hours on this a while back... All the unanswered questions he had were in your post! Great stuff. Cheers
