The cheap Chinese one is starting to die - best player ever, plays everything I throw at it including pirate asian DVDs that just block or wont play on others.

Anyway, I need a player that is pretty good about lousy discs, has no region crippling, and heres the tough one to find out about, no user control lockout for the occasions that I have a non-shrunk rented original in it. I get really annoyed at not being able to skip the logos and promos and stuff, so as far as I am concerned its an essential feature.

My momitsu v880dx is/was pretty good.  It does upscaling, xvids etc, and has a DVI out too.  I bought mine directly from taiwan -
Its been gathering dust (connected to the bedroom tv) though since I started using Media Center.  Media Center is just so much more convenient :-)

Wow, wouldn't think that a cheap chinese one would be able to play anything other than a pristine condition DVD, but I suppose if it's from china, then it has to be able to play chinese pirated DVD's.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!
