I'm looking for a smart BD player that has access to the various NZ ondemand services, particularly TVNZ and TV3.

Does this exist?

I have a samsung BD F8500. It's OK but not great. I believe there are also Panasonic units which tend to review a little better.

Does the Samsung have the ondemand apps for NZ?

Yes, Samsung has TVNZ on Demand, 3 Now, Lightbox and the like - it looks to me that you will have to check put the Samsung boxes as they seem to cover more of what you want.

I have a Panasonic BD/home theatre and a BD/PVR.  They are great for what I need them for, but the "smart" side of things is woeful - very poor UI and very limited apps (just youtube, quickflix(?) and a bunch of other stuff that's not even worth looking at).  In contrast the Samsung smart TV (and presumably BD players) is much better.
I've also read quite good reviews on the inexpensive Sony BD players in terms of their smart functions, although I can't remember if this extends to the NZ-specific stuff

Found some details on the Samsung site where they state that TVNZ ondemand and 3 now are exclusive to them so looks like that is they way to go.

yep, and plex app available if you are interested in that too.

I use an F6500 and it seems fast enough (dual core) - the new H series are around that $250 mark for the same.
Make sure it's got smart hub, (ie not the 5500 model)
