Hey guys,

I have some headphones that use 3.5 but the connector plastic is quite thick and won't fit through the hole in my phone case.

I believe I am looking for a female to male slim 3.5 adapter. I've seen a couple on TradeMe and in Dick Smith but they are only a few $, worried about the quality / reduction in sound quality.

Where would be a good place to buy one? I'm not familiar with audio stores.

Also I'm wondering if the adapter could get caught in my pocket and bend the pin or damage the phone, would I be better carving a bigger hole in my case perhaps.

Thanks

I have used one in the past and it had lousy build quality and no strain relief so it went intermittand on one side and the mic pretty quickly, and also started to do random button presses which was even better.

Seems that all the cable makers want to copy apples idiocy of not having any strain relief on the cables so they break quickly.

As for audio quality, its low power analog audio, so not much will mess that up. Main things are them going all scratchy because the plugs dont deal with movement very well. But at $2-3 just take a punt on them.

I had thee same problem with a retractable 3.5mm extension cable for connecting my 5s to my car...given it was so cheap, I just took a craft knife and shaved the connector down.

You could potentially buy a 3.5mm socket to Plug adapter (jaycar should sell one), and shave it down.
