The TV screen just went black. Full sound, and I could change channels, but thee was absolutley no picture.

Seems someone else on this forum has had the same issues - quite a few on other forums seem to be in the same place as I am.

I never really thought of involving the CGA - but now that its brought up I will def consider it.

All good points here. Thanks.

Sounds like a very similar situation to mine.

My Plasma is 3.5years old so fully out of warranty and thanks to the support on this forum I am attempting to get a resolve via CGA process.

The Noel Leeming store I bought it from were most pleasant but totally uneffective, Samsung NZ were terrible, they instructed me that I had to pay a non-refundable inspection fee regardless of liability (wtf?), I then spoke to Noel Leeming head office who were brilliant, handled the situation effectively and arranged for Samsung to collect TV which has now been achieved half a day later.

It seems Samsung have a van running full time around Auckland solely picking up dead TV's if thats any indication of failure rates!

Only tangentially related, but what the heck...

I purchased a Pioneer plasma about two years ago from Sound Expression in Wellington. The subject of an "Extended Warranty" was never even raised.

When it developed a fault about six months later, the guys picked it up, sent it for repair, and dropped it home again. They even provided a temporary replacement unit while the original was being repaired. None of this needed to be negotiated or demanded, it just happened. (Note that under the CGA, it's the buyer's responsibility to return the goods to the seller).

Could I have bought the same TV cheaper elsewhere? Probably. For a small premium, I'd prefer to buy from people who I know provide great after-sales service. A rock-bottom price with an expensive extended warranty isn't always the best option.

My understanding is that if the goods needed to be delivered or delivery was costed in original purchase then you are within your rights to expect faulty goods to be collected at no additional cost to you?

Got to agree with you here.  Any dealings I have had with Sound Expression they have been both helpful and knowledgeable about their products, and seem to be interested in the customer getting the correct equipment to do the job.

I find it offensive and patronising when people tell me that I've "wasted money" in buying an extended warranty.

LOL

Most consumer groups including Consumer NZ, regard extended warranties as one of the top scams around.

Tongue out

I wouldn't go around mentioning BOSE either.
Just because you paid $5k for BO$E does not make it a quality product.

The brand is reknowned for sheer crappiness.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you. Samsung TV is not as good as before, the quality has been downgraded.

I bought my 32" Samusng LCD TV in Christchurch in Sep-2007, the speaker did not work one month later.  They did not replace me a new TV, just organised a technician to replace the speakers and have been waiting for a month to do it due to the parts is out of stock.

I bought another 50" Samsung Plasma in Sep-2008, the speakers were like vibrated and had non-stopping funny strange sound when you turned the volume up to 45-50 which is UNBELIEVABLE. It happened a lot when we watched Action movies.

I will NEVER bought any Samsung TV again. My existing LG Plasma is brilliant...I love it!!!!!

Well i quick summary on my situation... After a bit of a rocky start Noel Leemings arranged for Samsung to collect and inspect my 3.5yo TV at no cost to me, this process took 3 days. 6 days later Samsung have advised me that my TV has a dead PDP module whatever that is and that it is major, Samsung have offered me a brand new replacement for my dead plasma 9 days later from inception of problem.

I am very happy with the result to date and while Samsung were a little off colour initially they have dealt with the matter proficiently once underway

Do you seriously think I'm so wet behind the ears that I haven't already had umpteen thousand spotty faced audio geeks having a go at me in the time that I've owned Bose gear? Most of these people in my experience compare Bose quality with that of higher tier component systems, yet compare the price with mainstream Japanese systems bought from big box retailers.

The evidence speaks for itself.

Laughing

BOSE have a great marketing department and litigation team, although they have been quiet lately, maybe they moved to Monster Cable ?

Money mouth

Most "audio geeks" have advanced beyond the pimple years.

But back to topic :P

Samsung have agreed to replace my three+ year old 720p plasma with a brand new Series 5 40" 1080p LCD so i am very happy with the end result. For me the bad experience was the initial customer service rep i spoke to, once under way Samsung have been totally professional and proactive in resolving my issue. I am going to put this down top the individual rather than the company and for the loss of a TV for a couple of weeks I now have a superior TV with another 10+ years life expectancy ahead of it!
