...so WowTV has just gone live on my TH-P46V20z.
It's underwhelming to say the least. Pity.
I can't even 'login'...

I was hoping for Facebook (as the V series Panasonic's can use a wireless USB keyboard). Does anyone have an inside word on new apps coming for the Vieracast platform?

I suspect it will be limited with the new Viera Connect offering in the 2011 models.  But we can hope seeing that they have slots for some 20 apps in the V20 series.

I noticed the same boring crap as usual, were does that leave us with veira cast when it goes to veira connect as I just bought a 3-d 54inch tv with veira cast.

Speaking for myself, I don't 'expect' upgrades on TV apps when I buy a tellie. It'd be nice... but personally, I don't think we'll miss out on much.
The TV's with built in apps like 10 pin bowling / Blackjack are always next to useless.
The only app I'm interested in is Facebook - and I've got my fingers crossed for that.
I think a software update so that the 2010 TV's can play the same number of codecs (via USB) as the 2011 models would be more beneficial.

Had a quick look at VieraCast when I got home last night, and saw the WowTV app loaded. Talk about a misnomer! I was able to browse through their "On Demand" selection, and it's a smattering of z-list 1950s movies that no one's heard of. The only things I recognised were a couple of Hitchcock films (though I didn't recognise the films themselves), and the rest were even more obscure. A good comparison would be the NZ iBooks store from Apple, which has the right idea with ebooks, but has failed to supply any modern books.

I find it baffling that Panasonic would go to the trouble of updating Viera Cast with an app with such a pointless selection. It's like they realised the future was on demand TV, but no one could be bothered to source any recent or interesting movies.

Fail.

Greetings

I too have been dissapointed with the Viera cast offering and update to Viera connect and this is Panasonic NZ's reply this morning:

1.            The update to Viera Cast is currently on hold due to technical issues

2.            Bloomberg service is being discontinued

3.            Existing Viera Cast users will receive Facebook and Shoutcast in the update when it occurs

So it doesn't look like there are going to be any major changes/addition in content for the foreseeable future, this has also been confirmed by the technical people in Japan.

thanks db

Maybe the 'technical issues' is that some stores haven't sold through all of their 2010 TV's yet??? Maybe when all the V series disappear from the shelves in NZ, we'll see the update?

Hi all,

I too have a 2010 42" Viera cast TV with skype app and so on that I bough 7 months ago and paid a premium for it (incl. cam + dongle).

I was pretty happy to pay what I paid for it (despite the slow release of new apps to download) since Viera Cast was advertised (at the time) as a safe investment in the future of Smart TV's...

Well that was until l realised after talking to a friend that Panasonic will not only stop providing updates and support to current Viera Cast cutomers but also in time get rid off Viera Cast altogether...
Since now they are launching Viera Connect to their 2011-2012 customers...

I was very dissapointed to find out that Panasonic has done this before to their 2008-2009 customers, when lauching Skype in 2010 they advised that the upgrade was not supported by older tv models (before 2010).

This a ridiculous strategy, it is like if Microsoft were to ask you to purchase a new computer everytime they upgrade a software (XP,Vista,W7...)

Therefore, If you too feel that you have been ripped off or let down by Panasonic then please, reply to this thread or post your story here and hopefully as a group we can voice our concern to those guys.

Ta,

Hi. I just found out about this now and I'm really pissed off.
I brought my 50 inch 3D Plasma ths year after the Christchurch earthuake destroyed my home theatre situation. I understood that if I brought this model then I would just keep on getting access to upgraded content all the time. So far it seems that access is diminishing on VierraCast. That sucks!!

I've heard it's being updated to Viera Connect in the very near future - so you probably don't need to be 'really pissed off'. But you know what really does suck?
Internet TV... (DLNA and YouTube apps aside.)

I have Viera Connect on a 42" LED TH -L42E30Z. I've only looked at YouTube so far, which works pretty well.
BUT
The Tube video appears in just a small frame on the screen. Can someone here tell me if it is possible to watch the Tubes in full-screen. Doesn't seem to be covered in the manual.
Thanks

Just click over to the video screen (move the cursor to the right), highlight the video and press enter.
It will then switch to full screen.
If you're using a wireless keyboard, the same thing applies, except you can use the arrow keys to select the full screen option.

Could you tell us more about this update and when is it happening?

Nope - was told that 'it's coming'... but they've said that before.
I guess it's just a case of being patient.
