Ok so I need to be able to just plug in one device or cable to dock my macbook on the network and use it. At present i have 4 or 5 cables plugged in.
Which of the docks that are available does anyone use? Are any available here in NZ ?
I would liuke to be able to plug it in without removing from case so the Henge one is out
There is a a company called Bookendz?
and also a device called J5 Create JUD500 Ultra Station

comments suggestions please

It looks like they are pushing everything through the USB-3 ... not sure how well that works in practice.

On the other hand, USD $99.99 on Amazon isn't so bad.
Can you get them here in NZ at a decent price?

I'm not using a dock with my 13 inch cMBP.

I think the official dock for one of those is the 27" thunderbolt display. Plug your bits into that and you only need one cable and get 27" of screen for free.

It looks like he might have one of these:

Thunderbolt appears to have come in the early 2011 models:

He doesn't want to use a Henge dock as he wants to be able to use the MBP at the same time as it is docked.

Just to add to the above comment on the 5J Create solution, if it's a 2010 MacBook Pro, then that will be USB 2.0 and I'd be even less inclined to push everything through USB 2.0.

The 2012 MBP was the first with USB 3.0. Plus if you look at the video for the JUD500 it looks great, but you don't see any power cable for either the docking station or the macbook. If you want to power the macbook, you also need the magsafe power connector, so that's 2 cables needed.

In that case, I'd probably just go for a 3 cable solution.

1. Magsafe power cable.
2. DisplayPort video cable.
3. USB hub cable for everything else (assuming you don't mind wireless lan).

It looks like their new dock might allow that (pre order at this stage):
