My macbook pro has , for the last year, almost, sat on my desk connected to the power and used through a desktop monitor. I had cause to use it away form the desk only to find it has a empty battery
0%percentage and is condition :replace now not charging

Do I believe all that or is there a 'trick" i should perform?

if that is the case there seems to be the usual plethora of suppliers anyone reccomend a supplier?

apparently it is a
MB990LL/A 63.5 W h Li-Poly

Thanks folks!

Batteries don't take well to sitting on the charger 24/7 so I'm not surprised that you've run into trouble. I got my replacement from iFixit. I don't recommend Trade Me; I bought a "genuine" battery from there and ended up with a counterfeit.

well there is a lesson learned
It was the battery
I was wondering why the screws were so tight and then I noticed the touchpad wasnt working
the offender below
And do you reckon that was because i left it plugged in all the time?

Leaving a laptop plugged into the charger ruins the battery. It only takes a few months. You need to exercise the battery.
I bought mine from www.laptopbatter.co.nz in Christchurch. This was not a genuine battery but for 65 incl GST and delivery it was worth the risk. Also 12 month warrantee.
Just remember only charge your laptop when needed.
My laptops can run for four hours flat out before I need to charge.
Cheers

Should be flat, not bulging out.

Some charging systems in devices stop this from happening, ie you can leave it plugged into power all the time

RunningMan: Should be flat, not bulging out.

After staring at it a bit more, I now see that it's a side-on view of the battery (I originally thought that it was a cable of some sort). Yeah, not good at all!

Is there some neat bit of apple software that does that? hmmm thinking about it it would have to switch the power off.....

Problem: I mainly use the laptop plugged into a big screen on my desktop leaving it plugged it screws the battery

Solution : Timer that turns the power of to the battery for say 12 hours then switches it back on ?
