Hi, I am looking to purchase either the Lenovo X1 Carbon 2015 or the HP 2-in-1 X360. Both have QHD screens. My question is, how well do QHD screens display when the resolution is pushed back to full HD? Or is this dependent on the model / GPU?

While a full HD screen is suffice for my needs, it is getting difficult finding top end laptops with those specs.

depends on how OCD you are ... I couldn't stand it coz it didn't look right ... but if you don't care it looks "ök"

in theory it should look alright. four pixels -> one pixel everything is retained without need to scale

Thanks joker97.

I am not too OCD about it but as long as it looks as good as a regular 1080p screen I wouldn't mind.

actually i took another look at mine QHD. 3200x 1800 is NOT 4x 1920 x 1080.

so there WILL be scaling, and it will look weird if you are "OCD", so will need to make it 1600x900; but if you are not "OCD" you will not care

I agree. As I do a lot of design work, it may not be the best thing to go with a QHD. Thanks!

HOWEVER if you get 4K (which is 2x1920x1080 ie 3840x2160) in theory it will be fine ....

both of those options are QHD 2560x1440 not WQXGA+ 3200x1800

I would try changing your DPI settings in Windows rather than running at non-native res

changing DPI in windows won't do squat for graphics programs, they need to be written to be compatible with high DPI screens to make work. the latest and greatest do, but i don't know what programs he needs to use ... have you checked whether your programs support high DPI
