New Microsoft Surface Pro announced overnight, the new surface pro tablets. Sadly, no USB C ports.

From Verge.

Nice to see being launched in New Zealand with the first wave.

That cover is not the best thing in the world though. I think the material is not a great one for that use and I think it's too thin. I always use an external keyboard with mine.

USB Type-C is a mess. Plenty of issues with compatibility between cables, devices and speeds. Microsoft is releasing an adapter for USB Type-C that you will be able to use with Surface Laptop and Surface Pro. I would rather see another USB Type A or Thunderbolt 3 port instead (clearly labelled TB with logo).

I am keen and want to order the Surface Laptop which you can order in NZ (same global release countries as Surface Pro) but only Platinum colour is available for NZ and rest of the world. In the US, you can pick Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, Platinum and Gold. I want Burgundy. I was about to buy it direct from Amazon which ships the Surface Laptop to NZ in Burgundy but then it turns out your Surface devices warranty is not internationally covered even in countries where the same SKU is available. Complete opposite experience to Microsoft Band which I have successfully claimed warranty on a US purchase replaced in Australia where the band was sold.

Do whatever you want to do man.

When I replace my laptop, I'm pretty sure USBC with Thunderbolt 3 will be one of my 'must haves' (mostly for a single cable charger & dock)

Some of our SP4 type covers got very dirty with extended use. A good scrub with some wet wipe-type products from one of the plastic tubes did wonders to bring them back to life.

Anyone know if the Surface pro 4 keyboard covers can be used with the new surface pro? I tried to find some material on it but didnt see anything. I assume it can.

Surface pro 4 is awful with external monitors. They work 98% of the time, but they do weird things like swap screens around, forget orientation, use the wrong screen as default, etc. Really basic stuff. It's not a great tablet, so might as well buy a laptop.

That used to be the case, but not recently. Our SP3/SP4's have been bullet-proof with external monitors last 6 months or so. We run dual screens via proprietary dock.

I still get weird stuff with external monitors & SP4 using the MS dock.  Most annoying is disconnecting the SP4 and 'losing' one of the open applications to presumably a ghost monitor.  Aaaagghhh....

Are you fully up to date with firmware?

Microsoft has a utility to update the firmware on Surface Dock itself. Have you ever run that and updated firmware for the docking station?

No thanks. Give me a proper laptop that I can use on my lap any day. Current workhorse is a Dell XPS 13 2n1 (and it has 2 USB-C). Had a surface pro 3 and hated it to the point that I went BYOD for work until they upgraded me.

Yeah, I'm up to date. Thanks for the suggestion.
