I have a friend with an Asus laptop that has died.  Won't power on, I can hear some disk activity but no LED's and no display.  It's out of warranty so I need to take it somewhere for evaluation and/or repair.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable service agent in Auckland?

What I would want to know is how old the laptop is. Since it is out of warranty, I am suspecting it is at least 2 years old. If it's even older, I might not bother fixing it as it would cost you an arm and a leg just for an inspection.

True, but I would still like to know if anyone can recommend a reputable repair centre.

if the laptop is old enough, sometimes it is better to buy a new one rather than fix it at the shop. it can be costly, time consuming and may not last for another year or so.

Exactly my point above nakedmolerat.
