ok, I got the nokia 2118 - Not happy with any of the ringtones I bought one from the xtra mobile browser thingie. Anyway, the phone does polyphonic ringtones, the store sent me a monophonic one, similar to what I had on my 6110 all those years ago, except the phone cant really even play it properly since its got a polyphonic ringer in there.

Does the 2118 support getting proper ringtones at all? Should I bother trying to get a refund from telecom on the 2 tones I bought?

On getting a refund: depends how much time you have on your hands. I would say "do it" on principle, but who knows how long you'd spend on hold etc to get the refund?

Don't know about ringtones, couldn't find your handset at gsmarena.

Does the phone have bluetooth? Buying your ringtones is barbaric, just make them and send them via bluetooth if your phone has it Smile

If you downloaded it from the polyphonic mobile menu, ring mobile faults and do it from there (they shouldn't give you a hard time on the issue).

There was no mention of polyphonic or monotone or anything in the menus, I just assumed that I would get a poly since thats what the handset does, and is listed on the telcom site as

Download Ringtones Y - Polyphonic

So I think I am right in expecting a polyphonic not a series of squeeks.

The Nokia 2118 supports Polyphonic ringtones........ here is the bad news....

The xtra site delivers a mono tone via 3 x SMS messages to the handset using the generis //SCKL format as all the Nokia handsets support them.. My 6275 even supports the old mono tones though it would be delivered a midi if it were to browse.

You can cable midi's in but I lost my hacked drivers (which also supporeted sms management from the Nokia suite) when I lost my old pc, otherwise I'd load some in for you.

Ok, well I will be giving them a call tomorrow to get my money back on them, can I use the connector to put ringtones onto it or something? It has a docking plug, whereas my gsm nokias do not.

I remember when the Hyundai tx95c FIRST came out - I think the first PXT TCNZ phone -
My dad went and brought 4 all in one bang for the family and I remember back then you could go onto the ringtone service and download a polyphonic ringtone for say $2.99 when you had $3.00 credit - and as long as you didn't disconnect the connection to the server you download unlimited ringtones/wallpapers/games.................

Boy that was fun................shame you can't do it now.

One thing i have learnt is to listen to the ring tone for your specific phone via a computer before you buy....... it stops you getting something that you do not want
