Anyone wanna share their experiences with Telecom's WiFi?  I am not a Telecom client so I cannot try it out, I have also done a search function already.  Does it block out anything like youtube or Skype video calls?

I've used it in the Octagon in Dunedin. I was sitting inside a studio at least 300m where the hotspot was and still managed to keep coverage (2 out of 3 bars on my Galaxy S3). Speeds at the time (lunchtime) were 8/6 which was great for free wifi (especially around lunchtime).

In regards to blocking anything, i'm not too sure. Obviously I assume there is some sort of QoS on it to manage traffic. I've used the 2 in Oamaru and never had any issues and pretty similar speeds.

Any comments made are my personal views and does not represent those of my employer

They are DSL backed, so whatever the best connection is. This means it could be ADSL2+ or VDSL2. They perform exactly as expected for a commercial AP with such a connection. Operates fine when there isn't a lot of people using it and range is fairly good.

This means the experience you get on one is going to be different to another - most people won't realise this.

So, far, has been pretty good for me. Speed isn't as much as 4G, bit who cares really, it's plenty fast enough to do whatever I want.

A couple of weeks ago I connected at Frederick Street and started listening to Radiosport on iHeartRadio. Got all the way to Moray Place with only a couple of dead spots - that's about a 15 minute 950m walk so not too bad, that's on a Galaxy S3.

It seems to be ok around Wellington. Unfortunately there aren't phone boxes near some of the locations where it'd be really useful (Civic square, Midland park) but there are plenty of spots where it is handy.

Performance seems OK. More often than not it transparently connects when in range and "just works".

I've posted a few times about this.

For me sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. On Sunday I was in one hotspot, connected fine, reception was fine and speeds websites were loading pretty quick. A few hours later was in another hotspot area, showing full reception and sites wouldn't load. Ended up turning off Wifi so the page would load. Happens so often I'm tempted to just forget the network permanently.
