Just got this text, hopefully they start rolling it out to more bus/train services across NZ - or even to AirNZ flights (not going to happen, but dreams are free right?!):

It's not on trains or buses - it's at bus stops and train stations. It's just an extension of the current WiFi, except AT hop users will also get free use in those areas.

I remember a couple of years ago they had Tomizone on the link busses here.  Was hopeless.

Pretty sure it is coming to trains and buses (and hopefully ferries too).

Airport flyer in Wellington has free wifi. Last time I used it it was quite good :)

Managed to connect to it at each station as I went past the other afternoon and no additonal sign in required at each station.
A nice touch to add to the use of public transport in Auckland, along with the shiney electric trains (sadly only on one line right now)
