Just got this text, hopefully they start rolling it out to more bus/train services across NZ - or even to AirNZ flights (not going to happen, but dreams are free right?!):

It's not on trains or buses - it's at bus stops and train stations. It's just an extension of the current WiFi, except AT hop users will also get free use in those areas.

I remember a couple of years ago they had Tomizone on the link busses here.  Was hopeless.

Airport flyer in Wellington has free wifi. Last time I used it it was quite good :)

Managed to connect to it at each station as I went past the other afternoon and no additonal sign in required at each station.
A nice touch to add to the use of public transport in Auckland, along with the shiney electric trains (sadly only on one line right now)
