Just what I thought. Your Neighbors will be on a different cable coming from a different location than yourself - just because there is a road doesn't mean the cables run down it so your loop can be far longer than your neighbors. This is what I was trying to explain in my post above.

If you're in a "no broadband" area just like that you're actually lucky to have broadband. There is nothing Chorus will do in order to improve things for you.

Oh well - bye Spark

Shame you do not offer wireless from the cell tower I can see on the hill.

Having said that your speeds are still low for your attenuation, which as a first step goes back to looking at your internal wiring as this is statistically speaking the biggest cause of issues.

It isn't Sparks fault, it has nothing at all to do with your provider. That Cell tower might not even be a cell tower and might be something totally different or be one owned by another provider.

http://ultimatebroadband.co.nz is your best option. Or as Steve says you need to look at getting a master filter installed.

I'm fully aware it's not sparks fault for the cabling.

It's a vodafone tower, being used by vodafone for RBI wireless. Farmside resells their offering.

The ultimate broadband pricing looks competitive. I'll be getting in touch.

Just a little confused you don't want to get your ADSL fixed as it is likely capable of more speed than you are currently getting ....

I cannot even get Spark to confirm there is a problem. A bit hard to move on from that position.

Well your internal wiring is your problem, you need to fix this yourself. Spark can book Chorus out to install a "master filter" for $200.

Or I spend $200 on a 3G/4G modem, which will get me around 25mbps with the RBI option. I suspect installing a master filter will not produce results like this.

Spark don't own your internal wiring - you do. There isn't necessarily a lot they can do, but if you pay your ISP they will get Chorus to come and install a master filter and make it as good as possible.

Dealing with internal phone wiring is a dilemma many people face, especially because it's such a common cause of issues. You may or may not have an issue, but the problem is expecting your ISP to fix something (particularly for free) you own is a bit like ringing your power company to fix a power socket in your home because your TV isn't working properly.

This is why I was wanting to find out if the connection was better before the cable on the street was damaged. If it was always slow, it was not worth progressing with hundreds of dollars of cabling, master splitters, and making the time to do the work.

This information is not something my ISP could provide.

I wired my previous house for power, and data, and if I knew 100% that the issue was the internal wiring, I would just replace it myself.

Well if that is the case you'll know how easy it is to wire the modem to the demarcation point of your house (disconnecting your houses phone wiring) and check your sync there - or isolate the rest of your houses wiring off from the jackpoint you're using.

This is what you need to first try and this is what a master filter also does. Since you've got broadband in a "no broadband" area anything goes in terms of speed, if you don't like it then move to RBI - simple.

That is a test I ran on your line.  It is operating very very poorly.
Something is wrong.
I would suggest doing some troubleshooting.  Try a different phone phone jack in the house.  Try unplugging all other phone devices etc.
At the end of the day, you may find there is a solution that does not cost you a cent.
Yes, a splitter will help as it will eliminate your home wiring from interfering, but to see a big improvement you may not even need to go that far.

Oh well - simplest solution was to move to another provider offering RBI 4G 700 wifi.

We ended going with Farmside, and so far everything seems to be going smoothy.

I'm not a gamer, so the ping times don't worry me too much.

perhaps get neighbors to share their line.. wire over the fence between houses :)
wifi maybe if boost it and put repeater mid way.

and pay half each..

until you get fibre in the street.

I think my asdl got to about 7-8mbits when had it.

so perhaps you mean they are x8 faster not 15 ?
