I know this may have been around for some time.  Wife got a call from "Spark" saying they want to discuss something about her phone account.  I asked her to pass the phone to me and the lady on the other side spoke in speed saying that we have landline and broadband with Spark (which a lot of kiwis do).

I asked her to talk slower and she asked me how I use the internet?!  I said it is my business about how I use my internet and I ask her firmly, but politely to get to the point.

Then she said thanks for yourtime and hung up.

Just a heads up this could be a scam.

Hmm, what in particular makes you think it might have been a scam and not just some attempt at upgrading your plan or similar?

VDSL?  UFB?
Adding calling 'add-ons'?
adding a mobile or something?


Could be a scam, but without more information could just be a really bad sales call.  Scammers are normally more persistant than that though.

Already on VDSL and my street is quite sometime away from UFB.

It will be very unwise for Spark to sell call add on to me.  The landline is there to receive the odd calls and for emergency only.

Anyway, it could be a bad sale call after all.

We have had a similar call. I assumed it was the "Microsoft" call centre branching out.

Nah as many pointed out, it could actually be a real sales call.

But we will never know because OP pre-judged the call.

Sometimes this 'sales' do offer good deals but it is not for everyone.

The fact that she said THANKS it makes me think more of a real call rather than scam.

Did they ask to speak to you or your wife by name? It seems odd that they would just hang up without getting to the point of the call if it were genuine. Having said that, all incoming and outgoing calls at Spark are now logged with a note in your account (or should be). If you are really curious just give 123 a call and ask whether you have been out-bound called in the last few days.
