As somebody has already asked in another thread "why is reporting spam such a mission?" For all its faults Yahoo allowed you to easily mark as spam from the webmail view. Why should generic spam go in my blacklist?

I've been filing them into the spam folder manually, which does the same on an IMAP client. But doesn't seem to get any less.

 

Sure its the box I've had the longest, but most unused so surprising so many of these obvious ones are making it through without any reverse SPF lookups and such in the background. The last 3 have been from absamail.co.za addresses but from 'ANZ Corporation' and 'Apple Inc' And such.

 

One was even from root@localhost. 0.o

While I concur with the all the good discussion on the increase in spam that gets through since Spark / Xtra /SMX are running things, I now note that someone has had a 'fiddle' (I guess) and just today I have had a legitimate email rejected that I sent to a pal (another xtra customer) claiming - 
554 5.7.1 Message rejected due to possible spam content. This message was created automatically by the mail system (ecelerity). A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

 

Several resends including a few trial re-edits of the same message still being bounced yet strangely the other cc recipients (customers of another webmail providor) are getting through.
Not so important as its forced me to pick up the phone and revert to conversation rather than email.
My pal is adamant he did not drag any of my emails into the spam folder mistakenly.  I have no idea how this spam artificial intelligence at SMX works, but I guess its gone from dumb to dumber.

Yes. 

 

I  have received spam from the IRD, PayPal, Apple and ANZ.  They were added to my blacklist and also the paypal one reported to spoof@paypal.com

 

and reportphishing@xtra.co.nz

 

All in received  to my name@xtra.co.nz email account.

This getting very frustrating and ridiculous. I have posted before about this here

 

Their filtering is definitely not picking up previously spammed and blacklisted email addresses. In my case:

 

pabloabogado@aol.com who I have received twice this week and each time I have spammed and blacklisted this address. And as I always do I have even blacklisted the Return-Path: ezdjvzykqeknpc@hotmail.com & pnnvpnmybvzzszfffx@hotmail.com which under pins his aol.com address.

 

and lets not talk about PayPal and Apple ID spam/phishing. Was one each a fortnight now we are one each a week.

 

(here is a beauty of an address: 4suspicious-donotrepplythismail232@donotrepply.activity.login-confirmationforprivasy-inoursystemserverformanagenewsafeaccountdatabase-webapps232324serverarea.email.mail.msn.live.com)

 

Yesterday I even recieved one containg a zip file from Sharon@xtra.co.nz subject = Emailing: Payment_201708-9237 Of course I did not open the zip file.

 

Come on Spark/xtra surely your AI filtering software must be out of kindergarden and at least onto middle school by now.

I had an email yesterday from copier@xtra.co.nz with an attachment that pretended to be from a "KONICA_MINOLTA_Internet_Fax".

Thats a shocker. Is their filtering so so substandard that they cant block OBVIOUSLY spoofed email, a spoofed email ~from~ the email domain they are hosting
not even checking where it was actually sent from to see if it matches

My Xtra accounts have been strangely quiet of late, but with the help of anecdotal evidence from family members (also Spark customers) and some of the extra information available to Spark Business Mail users (I have my own domain), I have noticed that SMX are misclassifying some legitimate mail as spam. One of the strangest things I've seen have been several bounce message generated by SMX being rejected as spam, mostly when trying to report spam that makes it in to spam [at] uce.gov.

 

I've contacted SMX about the issues I've had forwarding spam to spam [at] uce.gov and they've told me that there's some unspecified configuration issue with the DNS records for uce.gov, I'm a tad sceptical.

Also raises caution flag with me. It goes quiet, then like above you'll get 8 in the space of a few hours. Not like they are a new attack, just as if the switch is turned off for a day at a time now and then for more sampling by means of human checks.

How do you see that? I have an xtra email address, not Business Mail. My concern is not not seeing spam (as I get no spam into the spam or bulk mail folder) its the false positives that bother me.

As well as an Xtra email address, which I've had since the days Spark/Telecom used MSN for the email, I've also got a Spark Businessmail account for hosting emails sent to my own domain. The businessmail account (recently migrated to SMX) comes with a few extra bells and whistles, such as more comprehensive blacklisting/whitelisting options, and the ability to view a log of incoming and outgoing messages. The false positives bother me, too, particularly when casual family chit-chat and other legitmate email gets stopped in its tracks. I had to whitelist a whole bunch of mailing lists I'm signed up for.

 

I used to host my own email at home, but the machine I was using as server (and its intended replacement) both packed a sad on me, and I haven't bothered repairing or replacing them yet.
