Ok, so Telecom seems to have a reasonably good reputation at the moment for internet performance, but, as usual, it's hard to find out exactly how good without getting people to collate some speedtest results... and not just any speedtest results, but specifically international speedtest results taken between the hours of 1800 - 2200 NZDT, with a speedtest.net test to a US West Coast server being generally accepted as an indicative international test (many other tests understimate typical performance because they're more geared towards North American consumers).

This is somewhat self-serving, as I'm considering switching from Orcon to Telecom (never thought I'd consider going to the dark side), but I'm sure it would be useful to others as well, particularly anyone who is also fed up with the international performance of their non-Telecom ISP during peak hours, or thinks the performance of their Telecom connection is possibly below par compared to other Telecom customers.

So, I entreat to any current Telecom broadband customers who happen to read this to please post one or more speedtest results that meet these criteria:
  • Test performed at speedtest.net
  • Test performed between the hours of 6 pm and 10 pm NZDT
  • Test server is located on US West Coast (e.g. Los Angeles, San Francisco).  Additional results from other international locations may also be useful, but at least one from US West Coast would be good.
  • Test not performed using a capped connection (i.e. where user has exceeded monthly traffic limit and had a data rate cap applied)
with your post including the following information:
  • which Telecom plan you are subscribed to
  • your downstream and upstream sync rates (as reported by your modem)
  • and of course the speedtest.net result(s) in image or text form
I'm not expecting a lot of data points, just an indicator.  Obviously the most valuable results are those from FS/FS plans with a high sync rate (7 Mbps+), as they (usually) take the last mile out of the equation.  It should also go without saying that this thread isn't intended to play host to any complaints about Telecom's service quality or people asking why their speedtest results are worse than others.  My thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to contribute a data point.

It wouldn't make a difference as Telecom only offer FS/128k and FS/FS connections. From paradoxsm's post you can tell he is on FS/FS, so if you select Explorer, Adventure, Pro or one of the Business Plans the only difference should be the Cap (or included allowance) and if the plan is TOC (Throttle On Cap) or if the plan incurs overage charges.

Yes, however there are only two legacy plans of late that anyone could be on. One is Go Large which has a FS/128k connection, and the other is Pro Ultra which is FS/FS, and hence my comments above.
