Is there any way to build in functionality, that when a new user registered and goes to post a post, on top of the text entry box there is a "before you ask a help question, have you done..."


And remind them to check for latest updates, or call the service desk and if that is no help, search Geekzone and Google before posting the question.


It would just need to hang around for the first 5 forum posts or so, just a helpful reminder so the respected experts don't have to spend too much of their time off helping people who should first consult the product provider for support.

This is an interesting idea. Now if we could make some of these people actually READ things before posting.

If you are posting a new topic or a reply we arelady have five bullet points, including:


  • If you have a similar problem but a different configuration it is better to create a new topic.

  • Always use the Search box to find a previous answer to any problem you have.

  • The reason why we lock discussions after 30 days is because some people used to jump on a six month old discussion and say something like "My problem is with [telco] as well, but a bit different" and then people in the old discussion would get email notificaton for a discussion they were not interested in.
