Under TelstraClear, at a certain point I believe last year it was no longer possible to send emails via your Clear email account through, say, Outlook, whilst overseas. Of course naturally one would use smtp servers from overseas when you could. This was point in place to reduce spam being sent.

I was wondering now that Vodafone has taken over, whether there will be a change? I ask because Webmail is pretty basic and could do with an upgrade. Its an inconvenience for those who use Outlook where emails come in and are stored, and having to then use Webmail whilst overseas; Webmail may not contain those emails/has no allowance for formatting.

No, it wont change, Vodafone (and 99.9% of ISP's out there) follow the same standard.

You should however, be able to authenticate against the Vodafone smtp server first and send through it.
Then you never have to worry about your SMTP email settings again....

Someone from V/fone should be able to confirm this...

Could you link you gmail account to use your .clear.net.nz email service as IMAP.
Then all incomming mail can be collected on your gmail account and responded to.

Others will be along shortly to say 'break free of your ISP issued email'.

Is this even so whilst overseas?

I suspect so.

I am wondering, however, if I can migrate Outlook to Outlook 2013 cloud, and send using clear pop and smtp servers on that.

Just have the clear account forward to your new Outlook cloud account, configure the cloud account to be able to send as you clear account, dont use clears pop or smtp for anything, let MS sort it from the Outlook cloud infrastructure.
