Was discussing with a friend today some experiences on 4G. He was in Whangamata recently and said it horrible and couldn't connect to anything and had to manually switch to 3G.

I noticed 4G is switched on for Chartwell today and had close to full signal and yet I had connection issues on facebook and twitter which was a pain. In Te Rapa the 4G was down to 1 bar of signal and similar broken connections.

When I was in Auckland last week I had no problems with 4G even in 1 bar signal areas.

Any explanations for the differences in the Auckland experience vs my Hamilton and my friend's Whangamata experiences?

Whangamata is a holiday hotspot and population swells during Christmas / New Years

Chartwell 4G has been live for a few weeks and 4G is still expanding in all regions

Auckland has more 4G cells over the other locations

Unless we have traffic stats for the serving cells it's nothing but guessing

Thanks JohnR. I've only just switched to Voda 4G in the last couple weeks but I probably haven't noticed and I'd been to Chartwell a few times. ! I was at the Westfield shopping mall in Chartwell. Speedtest seemed decent at 40 down and 40 up so curious as to the patchiness of the connection. Maybe we need more cells like Auckland because it was really good up there!

It's still early days for 4G / LTE coverage / capacity
