Tonight I finally figured out how to do VLAN tagging on my Asus RT-AC66U router. I have everything up and running perfectly except the Vodafone TV decoder.

I DID have it working for a bit, but can't seem to replicate how I did it?

I thought I'd have to enable VLAN 10 on LAN 4 of the Asus router which I did, and this did work for a bit - the picture came up, I could change channels, etc, but for some odd reason at the same time my laptop lost its connection to the internet. I restarted the router, same settings, but this time I can't get the decoder to work at all and the only message that comes up is 'Service Unavailable'. The EPG works, the settings show it has an IP address, but no signal.

I've tried changing ports, resetting the decoder, starting from scratch with it all but I just can't get it to work.

Anyone know what I'm missing?

You must use the supplied Huawei HG569 for TV over UFB. Any other router is not supported.

Thanks Zolly, does that mean it shouldn't work at all on any other router? Because it was definitely working on my own one.

So I either use the supplied Huawei router to be able to watch TV, or I use my own router and don't watch TV?

Hi

We can only support service on the supplied Huawei 659 gateway for Vodafone TV over UFB.

Vodafone cannot guarantee service or support for this service if any other device is used.

We will not support it full stop.
I can advise you need to have a technology called multicast.

I've got it working. I enabled multicast routing in my Asus router and now it's working.

LOL! In all honesty it works better now as I had issues with it connected to the supplied router. TV 1, 2, 3 wouldn't work (pixellated images, audio dropping out) so I'd called a couple times, but connected to my own router it works flawlessly.

I think ISPs should provide some technical information on how to get a service working but then have no support if it isn't using their device.

There is a line. I could tell him 100% how to get it going but spend 2 hours trying to get it going. Exactly like port forwarding. We can advise in a basic form what you need to do but wont do it for you.
