Like the many recent threads on here from people claiming poor Gigabit performance and eventually realising it's their setup I'm not convinced that VF are at fault based on anything you've posted so far.

Tested on a high end PC and Laptop with Chrome, Edge and Speedtest app. Hard Wired to Vodafone supplied router and modem. Also tested with 2 different Samsung phones over Wifi, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Testing has been done at different times of the day/night since I do shift work. Main tests were done with Wifi turned off and only desktop connected. Default settings applied by Vodafone.

 

Vodafone Support told me to restart devices. I was on the phone for 46 minutes and all that was achieved was them doing a remote access for them run 5 speed tests and restarting devices again. They then said my PC must be using old drivers because task manager would not open for them, they said this could be the issue! (even though I had clearly told them I had issues with all devices). Turns out it was just the slow connection causing it to take a while to show on there end. My PC is a fully updated i7 6700k rig, well maintained and looked after. They said they will call me tomorrow, yeah right. IF the issue is traced back to my end, it will still be something the tech would of done, he messed around for a while when connecting fibreX up. All I can tell you is that at 9am in the morning of the UPGRADE I was downloading at my usual speeds and getting full speed on speedtest.net, I know this because I checked, then that arvo after the change I was not. Screw the water, the pipes and any other analogy you might want to use, these are the facts, thing's were good, then they were not, and nothing changed on my end except what the tech done, and things have got progressively worse by the day.

No, as I said above I have tested on my Desktop and laptop with the same results. Today Vodafone servers show excellent results, while all other servers and real world performance is poor. Another thing I noticed when the connection was working better was a download would ramp up slowing, peak, then plumpet back down to Zero then ramp up again.

Was the download a torrent or from offshore?

 

Have you given all this detail to Vodafone?

I don't know for sure, but I feel like these are not problems with the physical layer of the service or similar, but supporting services of the infrastructure like possibly peering, proxies, dns etc. You knew Vodafone cable was rubbish when you had cable before. You got fooled, but then you've signed up again for more of the same. "Shame on you" :)

 

Remember how people could have excellent cable speedtests, but then Youtube would stutter along at 144p etc

 

I feel sorry for you, but you should have said "never again" instead of giving them another chance.

 

To be a bit more constructive: When you say 'excellent results', it would help if you could quantify this a bit better. I.e. if it was over 200Mbps that would mean something.

These a multiple torrents, torrents that completed in seconds on 100/10MB/s with high amounts of seeders. Yes, I told Vodafone all of this but the best I got was a "restart your devices" "connect to the router directly" (which I am) etc etc. He would not even log a fault, but did say he will call back at 9am this morning, but that has come and gone. So just all the usual reason's why I don't waste my time with Vodafone support really. If they call me back I will push again for a ticket to be logged. Was hoping that FibreX would ease the wait for real fibre in June next year, or even be a better alternative, but its not. I had fibre for a year at my old house and it was amazing!

A different router won't make any difference if it's your PC at fault, and so far you haven't done anything to eliminate it. Just because you don't think it's at fault doesn't eliminate it as the cause.

Excellent results were 945/95Mb/s to the Vodafone Wellington server. I was one of the few that did not have issues with cable, I got a constant 101/10Mb/s even during peak times. My street is surrounded by fibre except a 400m area where I happen to be, so I assume there is not many of us using cable. So went into this upgrade expecting things to be no different. Sure I had the odd problem with cable 100/10, but these normally fixed themselves pretty quick.

OMFG I have used other devices. Again for the third time, I have also used a LAPTOP hard wired. So are both of my PC's broken? Unlikely. Have also tested all other devices that can speed test, some WiFi, some hard wired. Xbox One, PS4, 2 x Samsung Galaxies. Using 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, all give worse results than the morning before the upgrade.

VF have stated clearly that torrents are being shaped....geez dude

 

International speed is all over the place and generally outside VF's control unless you wish to stump up with the big bucks to guarantee a certain international speed.

 

If you expected that by going to Gbit speed your torrenting would also be at that speed you have made the wrong choice.

 

I also find torrenting bad on FibreX but cant really complain too much for good reason. I also suspect Fibre customers are also having their torrents shaped more these days as well due to the insatiable demand for bandwidth by kiwis.

 

So many folk have gone Gbit for the wrong reasons and in  fact would have been just as good on 100/10.
