I just sent a warning to all my non-technical friends. Others might want to do the same. This seems to be reaching epidemic proportions. No doubt it will show up on Stuff and TVNZ in a week or so.

Tonight I received two missed calls - one from Bangladesh and one from Chad. The first one only rang for a couple of seconds, but I'm not sure about the second one as the phone was in another room at the time.

I am on 2degrees with a number ported from Vodafone.

I got another from Zurich last night.

I've received at least 15 of these calls since the start of the year.

Usually it rings for a microsecond before ringing off... I suspect to encourage you to call back the missed call.

truecaller seems to have dealt with a couple of calls on one of my phones from a stupidly long number today.

Great app that.

freitasm: Got a phone call from 88 (Sri Lanka) today. Obviously not answered and wouldn't call back in any way.

That will explain the +88 call I got yesterday as well on my 021 number.

I regularly get calls from Canada, Switzerland, and Chad.  I never answer them as I don't know anyone in these locations and assume they are scam calls.

Perhaps if the telcos gave decent call screening options instead of writing complicated sounding facebook posts about these things?

I got the same Chad number on Sunday, but ending in 15. Then straight after a number starting in +88, also a Spark number transferred from Voda a few years back.
