Ok so I know that there are many many….. many posts on the internet asking this very question however, I am struggling to get my fiber to connect so I am asking for a little guidance.

  • I have searched high and low.
  • I have reset router and ont several times..

I called Vodafone but there was no way I was waiting 60 min to talk to someone, to be honest I would rather pay the disconnection fee and go with another provider then sit on the phone for an hour plus.

So on to the issue, I have a fiber connection to my home, I do not have the Vodafone router (long story but I will be receiving one)

So I thought I would try another router I have, a NetComNF8AC (updated to the latest Firmware). This router is capable of Vlan tagging so it should work for my connection.

I have followed the guide here http://support.netcommwireless.com/faq/nf8ac-ultra-fibre-setup-spark-new-zealand

But still no connection.

So some questions.

  • Does Vodafone fiber use PPPoE?
  • Is my PPP username and password my info I use to log into customerZone? ( I have come from fiber x so I didn’t originally have a username and password)

Other notes on how I have set it up.

The router is connected to the ONT in the following manner – ONT (lan 1) -> NF8AC -> WAN.

The lan1 light on the ONT is orange. The Optical light is flashing green, not a utilisation type flash but a consistent pattern of on and off.

As long as your ethernet/wan port will do vlans tagging set it for vlan10 and just plugging it in with dhcp enabled on that interface

Yep I have checked out the Vodafone info.

Thanks for that so on this router I will be setting up a wan connection using ip over lan and Vlan 10? I had tried this and the modem received an ip address and the internet light lit up but still no internet.

You may need to add the WAN interface, IPoE with VID=10, as described in manual.

The port on the ONT you've plugged into is provisioned to NOW?

That would also match up with the 10.0.0.0/8 IP you've been provisioned. That's a private IP range and would make sense as NOW uses CGNAT.

Try the other 3 ports on the ONT?

I just spoke to Vodafone they said they are waiting for NOW to disconnect their line before they can connect theirs. This will take place on Sat.

I really don't see how it takes 5 days to get a line disconnected and then connect a Vodafone line. I hope they don't expect me to pay for the 5 days I have had no internet.

Maybe the last account holder requested the old connection to be disconnected on that date

Can someone confirm that they can do this? If so I’ll give them a call just don’t wait to wait on hold for nothing.
