I don't want to speak too soon, touch wood and all that, but I've just done a speed test and I'm getting 4824 kbps down at 7.46pm.

Here's hoping the exchange capacity has been fixed and we are back to normal speed!!!

Dancer: HI Nigel
our download speed was only 195 kbps and then 145 kbps when I tried it again 5 mins later.
Hi Dancer,
Are you saying your modem/router connects at 4000 kbps but in speed tests to xnet you only get 195 kbps?
Is this at peak time? If you get 4000 kbps to xnet off peak and it slows to a crawl at night then it would sound like a similar problem to ours in Palmerston North.
Could it be that certain exchange equipment around the country is not keeping up with the uptake rate of broadband connections?
Of course your problem could be something completely different and un-related!
Cheers,
Nigel
Dancer: Hi Maverick
THanks to you and everyone else for your interest and advice. This girl is interested in how it all works but definately learning here so fall over a bit still with all the terminology. Yes we were 'streaming' or 'syncing' hope that means the same, at 4000Kbps but only getting 145 - 195 Kbps download speed which was really pitiful as its been like that for a couple of months. I didn't try to log it earlier as we had been kindly sent a bit of a vicious 'worm' from the 'Generic' series and it was causing all sorts of issues so couldn't really tell how the computor was running till I got rid of that.
I did ring the help desk again late afternoon and got Simon who we've had before and who is really cool at sorting situations so great. He told us Telecom had changed the D Slam card at our exchange at 1.00am this morning so all of a sudden we now have good band width again; our pages load fast and I can actually open pdf files again = all good for the study. Simon said he was'nt able to check our line at the time but will get back to us. We are still experiencing the odd weird with our VFX - a Telstrar clients computor sent us multiple calls tonight from the fringe of the city so not sure there but fingers crossed its all getting better. Hope this helps someone else. We run a linksys router model WAG54GP2 V2-ANNEX A which has worked out pretty good so far.
