Looks like I was waaay off. $80 is a big chunk...guess it's not that much of a step up if you are already on a plan.

I would have hoped that on the lower iPhone plans the price of the phone itself would be much lower than that.

Hey Paul

Find me one person who doesn't work for vodafone or have shares in vodafone that thinks the prices released are "nice".

The entry level pricing that Vodafone introduced comes as no surprise to me. Why did anybody expect to see something that completely blew Vodafone's existing pricing plans out of the water? Why did people expect to see $40 per month plans?

Some people need to take a deep breath and say to themsevles "It's only a phone"

Check http://www.stuff.co.nz/4610626a28.html. Fun times. Even the press aren't impressed.

DylanReeve:
I still think the price of mobile data is a joke - I mean it costs nothing to transit across the network, and they own an ISP.

It costs nothing? Really? So there are no capex & opex costs associated with providing a data network?

If you truly believe that it is 'just a phone' then you haven't been watching the tech world for the last year or so. That's like the saying the original iPod was 'just a portable music player'. Sure, people can get a bit over-passionate about it, but the iPhone is definitely not 'just a phone'.

Looks like Vodafone Sub-IMSI lock the pre-pay SIM so you can't use it in the iPhone!. oh... great!  :(

on VFNZ's Website:
Question

I am a Vodafone Prepay customers – can I get iPhone 3G on Prepay

 Answer

No, iPhone will not be available on Prepay.

You need to have subscribed to either an iPhone plan or alternatively a standard On account plan (You Choose, talkZone, or Corporate) with a compatible Broadband plan for mobiles.

This can work with your existing You Choose / talkZone / Corporate plans, just requires a Broadband plan for mobile

This thread certainly wins the "Most lurkers and most newbies in one thread" award!!

Welcome to all the newbies, and welcome back to all the lurkers.

Compared to the rest of the industry, ~$1000 for an iPhone 3G sounds like a reasonable price.

Looking at the plans, I havent done the maths, but it doesn't look like they stack up too well, and still paying for the 8GB iPhone on those top two plans is just a joke.

I agree with most of the rants in this thread!

I want an iPhone 3G, and when Telecoms new network launches, I will be happy to pay around $700-$900 for one as an unlocked P.I. if possible.

Or maybe the 1st Gen iPhone secondhand price will stabilise now at around $400-$500. That would also be attractive to me.
