Any word on if it is sim locked into vodafone for overseas roaming?
Or is this an exception from the new (revised) plan of not locking phones?

If you truly believe that it is 'just a phone' then you haven't been watching the tech world for the last year or so. That's like the saying the original iPod was 'just a portable music player'. Sure, people can get a bit over-passionate about it, but the iPhone is definitely not 'just a phone'.

I have been following the hype and have also spent a lot of time playing with an iPhone. It's nice, has a great UI and cool features. It doesn't change the fact it's just a phone.

ouch, those rates are excessive but you can purchase the Iphone and place on a corporate or standard plan and broadband plan.

Over rated deviceaccording many business people went from Blackberry to trhe 2g model and have gone back. Then again it is a great bling toy! Until its a 900mhz UMTS the 3g is really not a big deal.

Telecom may have a chance to steal the thunder but i who knows what they are going to do, it would deffinately be in their interests to have the new 3g model at laucnh and create real competition, what about NZ Communications, will they have it as well?

Not sure what everyone's complaining about. The price seems to be in line with current Vodafone pricing. Just looked it up - for 120 minutes calling and 600 texts to any network, it's $72.90 per month with a $120-$200 handset discount. The iPhone 250 plan for $80 per month gets you all this, plus 250MB of data and is a $430 ($979 - $549) discount off the pre-pay price.

Sounds about right to me.

Obviously they're focusing on the high-end market with the plans, but if you're only an ocassional user, then you could buy it on pre-pay. But then again, why buy such an expensive phone if you're not going to use it much?

I'm not saying that Vodafone NZ's prices are good by international standards, but did people seriously think they'd chop their prices when the iPhone came out?

What irks me is that the Vodafone contributors on this forum have dropped bits and pieces of info over the last few weeks building the hype, implying that the plans will be great and exciting etc...all the while knowing (or perhaps not knowing in which case they shouldn't have said anything at all) the actual details of these plainly awful plans. For shame!

I was just looking at the cost of iPhone plans in other countries.

I think New Zealand takes the cake when it comes to plan costs. Even in Canada they get a better deal than us - the iPhone is available for free there on an $80 plan.

Vodafone NZ can't legally SIM lock any of handsets at the moment. the govt wont allow it. (trust me on this one. I used to work with VFNZ)

but i guess there is nothing to stop them sub-IMSI lock their own pre-pay SIM.

oh bugger.

Apologies if this has been asked already, but if I'm on an iPhone plan and not a YouChoose plan, does this mean I no longer qualify for Vodafone Family and BestMates? Oh, AND Local Zone? :o
