Where is this "analyst" living? There are plans of $49/month for 1 GB - on Vodafone! Charging $250 for the same GB is outrageous.

Does the $49/1GB plan include 600 minutes, 600 TXTs, and a $780 hardware subsidy?

The hardware subsidy is against Vodafone's 'retail' price so has little bearing here. The price is grossly inflated.

I think Jason summed up the article nicely in a comment on our blog post re: iPhone plans:

Since this clown thinks it’s not expensive he can pay mine.

Those prices really are peanuts in comparison to Vodafones prices.

The thing that annoys me most about the new plans, is that they have taken their existing plans (which were arguably already expensive) and made them worse by removing the flexibility of not being able to choose what combination of voice & data you want. So on current Vodafone plans, you can choose a low minutes voice plan and then add on 1GB data for $49. Or you could get a voice plan with lots of free minutes, and then choose to only have 200MB of data.

Macros: Can anyone tell me if they know hwo the pre-pay blocking will work?

I mean, if I had a prepay SIM that's 2 years or so old, the SIM itself won't be blocked from use in the iPhone unless the iPhone is porgrammed to block prepay SIMs, right?

I saw something mentioned about sub-SIM blocking, can someone explain what that is?

I called VF this morning, and have listed some of the questions, however I would not necessarily take the information as certain, as the CSR did not sound confident.

It was along the lines of .. (not word for word)

Me - Can I use my VF AU sim card in the iPhone?

CSR - The iPhone will be locked to Vodafone.

Me - Can this be unlocked

CSR - Yes It can be unlocked for $50 by our (??) team (could not clearly hear the name of team)

Me - But can this be used with a VF AU - SIM without being unlocked. I have both AU and NZ sim cards and just swap between when travel. Still sticking with VF network.

CSR: Oh ok. Yes so long as it is Vodafone and then Australian sim card will work (I am not convinced here)

Me - I am on account, I would like to purchase the phone outright and give to my wife, but she has a VF prepaid sim card. Will this work?

CSR - only you can buy the phone as you are on account but her SIM will work in it. (lets hope)

Me - Can I use my existing YouChoose and Data plan with iPhone, i get 1GB plus $10 insurance for another 1GB

CSR - yes you just have to buy the phone

Me - Will I be able to buy the phone at any of the retailers

CSR - you will have to buy it from the three main retail stores

Me - Is that just for outright or also iPhonePlans

CSR - not sure... the other stores will have some promotions running on the day but I do not have any details

Me - What about online, can I buy the iPhone online

CSR - only the iPhones bundled with plans will be available online at midnight

Totally agree. I need more than 250MB, simply to use the MobileMe service! Who knows how much data that will chew through simply by having it active?

I think this is actually a big issue - Vodafone are effectively limiting Apple's revenue by making MobileMe an almost-pointless service, due to the need to sign up to a massively expensive data plan just to use it... So surely there's incentive for Apple to step in here and tell Voda to sort itself out?

Here's a new Vodafone insanity:

I have a VF mobile already. I thought that I would keep that for clients to use and get a new iPhone. Obviously, I want the existing number to port to the iPhone and a new number on the existing handset.

So, rang VF. "Can I do this?" "No." " Why?" "It is classed as a disconnection." "So, you would rather not transfer my existing number than sign me up to two contracts instead of one and get the iPhone profit?" "It's not my decision sir."

I HATE jobsworths!!

VF are just retarded I think.

That's what I thought.

I am also reading a number of items in VF FAQ which may be interpreted to contradict a number of points raised in discussion on phone.

It would be pretty overwhelming for some of the CSRs who may have had just a short briefly before the phones started ringing.

Anyhow eventually the dust will settle and some of the ambiguity will be clarified. If you send questions to the VF Q&A site, maybe then responses can be updated with more detail.

Eg it does not explicitly say that you are forced to resign if you are eligible to resign. When reading the Q&A Response on VF it gives scenarios if eligible and if ineligible to resign. However if eligible to resign, it is silent whether you can stick on plan and purchase outright.

Over 47,715 people say NO to Rogers - Now that's a petition.

The following is somewhat puzzling to me. From the VF website:

"The iPhone 3G plans are only available on iPhone 3G handsets."

What I want to know is if, for whatever reason I have, I want to get an iphone on one of the new iphone plans AND THEN use my SIM card in another phone briefly (I always have a spare phone) will I be able to? If the iphone plan I am on can only be used with an iphone what does one do in this situation?

This would also be relelvant for those that need to send their iphones away for repair. VF generally lends you a temporary phone to use, but unless the iphone is the loan phone, will you SIM work in any other phone?

I'd have thought yes, but then I'm reading conflicting comments around the place...
