I need bestmate. Some number of minutes and texts are also fairly essential. I'm willing to pay up to $80/month (what I currently pay). I wasn't planning on getting an iPhone (happy with my Treo), but I might if the plan gives better value than what I'm currently getting.

I just wish they had a wide range of plans, like
from 29.99 to 100.00 or something..

Unfourtently i dont think there is pre-ordering. First in-first served im afraid.. You could be sitting at home nice and warm, and order from the vodafone online store at 12:01 on friday morning though, why queue up when this is an option! Just have all your information pre typed out in a notepad document, ready to cut and paste into the appropriate feilds of the application form!

SightUnseen:
Apple have stipulated that the 8GB iPhone will cost no more than $US199 in any country in which it is sold.

Some good thoughts there on the plans.

Marketing codswallop.  At least 4 countries have completely ignored that "stipulation".

I'm afraid I don't have much faith that Vodafone (or any other NZ mobile network) will provide us nice competitive pricing.  Not while there's only two companies to deal with.

Dude the pricing has been announced. its $199NZ on a two year contract, which is infact the cheapest in the world if im not mistaken!! The total cost of ownership is going to be high though, all depepnding on the price of the plans

Here's my call for the record.  If you want the phone for $199 you are going to be paying AT LEAST NZ$100 per month.  AT LEAST.

Autofill in Safari works brilliantly for this.  Hit the button and all the fields it recognises are filled in instantly :-)

They've announced the pricing on one plan (it's not the cheapest in the world by the way - you can get it for 1 euro in one of the european countries) - and I fear the pricing on that plan will be high.  The question is, with any cheaper plans (they haven't said whether the contract there is actually their cheapest) how much higher will the hardware cost hurt?

Well, we'll find out in 15 minutes I guess.

Can you list the 4 countries that have ignored that stipulation? Some countries are ALSO offering the iPhone on a prepay basis which means that it is not subsidised and will cost more, but all countries will be offering the iPhone with a contract for the advertised USD199 (or equivalent) price.

It was never stipulated that the price would not be more than $199. Apple SUGGESTED the retail price $199.

The $199 price announced by Voda yesterday will be on their most expensive plan, on the cheaper plans the phone will cost more.

I agree 100%.
I also think there will an entry level plan with minimal data and minimal free minutes that will cost in the region of $40-$50 per month.
