I know this goes against the flow of most of today's comments, but I currently believe (if I've understood things correctly) that with a 16GB iPhone on a 250MB plan my monthly VF bill will be lower than it has been for the past year. And I'll have a much, much better phone than my current one. And I won't need to carry my iPod around any more. And (the non-rational part I admit) I'll have a very cool device...

whaka: Is anyone actually that surprised?

Unlike many overseas operators Vodafone NZ does not provide substantial subsidies on handsets so to offer the iPhone at the price announced by apple they had to do something silly around the monthly subs and lets face it, regardless how silly we think the prices are, there will be queues outside the 3 stores at midnight on Firday.

Scanning through all the posts about this, I am yet to see any sort of official response from any Vodafone spokesman. Paul is usually very quick to give Vodafone's side. Maybe he is so busy dealing with all the questions from the press aobut how they can justify the prices.

He told us he's apparantly going away on Holiday with his family earlier on in the thread. ;)

@ whaka:  Paul B said last week that he'd be on holiday this week. A wise move, perhaps!

Yeah, for some. But then wouldnt you have thought about upgrading your plan, or are you saying that you're using more than that price a month WITH data INCLUDED.

Hi Aaroona, well I guess I may be on a sub-optimal plan, but for the past 6 months or so I've ignored it waiting for this very week to arrive. Up until now I've not been a data user...

Hi again,
Oh okay.
Yeah, so I take it you'll be lining up then? :P

Wanna' buy mine for me as well?

I mean, I dont have a problem with paying $80 a month. However, what I DO have a problem with is whats actually included inthe plan.
If they change the plans to be a bit more flexible, then they definitely have a customer. but  until they remove their heads from their arse cheeks, I will remain on my plan which seems to do the trick with a less-than-iphone-perfect mobile phone.

(the Mega plan)

Cheers,
and the handle back this way is Aaron :)

Must be some red faced "yes men" Vodafone trying to cover their butz this afternoon. This thing has back fired monumnetally.

Blogs I've read are full of angry people who feel they have been duped. Kiwi's hate being made to look stupid and after all the bullshirt of Vodafone saying fantastic new mobile data rates were coming they come out with rates that insult our intelligence.
In 1 foul swoop, I have lost all respect for a brand that I thought was smart, funky and in touch; it takes years for people to build trust and respect in a brand and moments to unravel it - Congratulations Vodafone all your have succeeded in doing is making NZ consumers realise all your marketing shi^^t is PR crap

It's not the price of the phone, hey it's a good phone and I have no objection paying for the hardware

Most countries in the world have fixed cost unlimited data rates that represent fair value for money . Relative to NZ, it's ridiculously cheap in Australia. It's obscenely expensive in NZ - roll on Telecom with your 3G network....just shows what happens when a company that is supposedly in touch with its customers let corporate arrogance prevail

Wow, and only 18 month contract. We are talking about some of the lowest rates in the world though with regards to the UK.

well, unless your one of the first 5 in the queue, you might as well wait until the next shipment like the rest of us.
Unless of course the three midnight opening stores have been given a larger stock, then I would say first 10.

389 won't go far.
I know that Magnum mac are only getting 10 iPhones, and the rest will be divvied up among First Moblie and Digital Mobile VF stores.
Only 51 stores nation wide will have it.

Yeah..

New Zealand is turning to sh*t. and no Im NOT saying that its turning that way BECAUSE OF the iPhone. I'm saying it because it generally is. This is just another thing to add to the pile of disappointments.

Has anyone seen any of the other Vodafone subsidiary iPhone prices?

I would personally agree but things are getting better. As I've pointed out before, with the addition of NZ Coms to the mobile market Vodafone has their work cut out for them. I just don't see this Iphone publicity as anything other than BAD for them. Seriously, they would have been far better off just not signing the contract or entering into negotiations. I truly believe they did this to prevent Telecom or NZ Coms getting their hands on this device.
