JoeBloggs: I would personally agree but things are getting better. As I've pointed out before, with the addition of NZ Coms to the mobile market Vodafone has their work cut out for them. I just don't see this Iphone publicity as anything other than BAD for them. Seriously, they would have been far better off just not signing the contract or entering into negotiations. I truly believe they did this to prevent Telecom or NZ Coms getting their hands on this device.

I think they have to sell it because Vodafone internationally has signed the agreement with Apple so all Vodafone subsidiaries, including NZ, are selling iPhone. When the 1st gen iPhone was released, I personally didn't think that Vodafone would ever bring it here because they cannot customise the iPhone i.e. the home page cannot be changed to Vodafone Live, music store can't be replaced by Vodafone's, etc.

Only has prices for VF Portugal, and no handset price listed.

What happened to the others?

the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, South Africa and Turkey

Yes - but Joe, that is because OFCOM and the EU force the companies to behave fairly. Here in Kiwiland, where protectionism is a government-sponsored activity, the regulator -if there even is one - is like a toothless old woman!

That's the thing about today's announcement.

Yes, "it's just a phone", but Vodafone have been leading us all up the garden path with their dripfeeding of information which, in hindsight, most people would regard as bordering on deceptive.

People don't like being duped.

Vodafone if you hadn't promised a low price point AND a reasonable per month commitment AND a reasonable data allowance, I wouldn't be as upset.

Yes I can choose not to buy, but I feel that you've come very close to lying about affordability to draw interest.

Cheap, and this will backfire in the long run. I've not considered Telecom as an option for me since I ditched them over 10 years ago.

Terrible.

Although I much prefer more heavily featured phones for myself (N95/82 etc), at a compelling price point with a good plan I would have had no hesitation recommending the iPhone 3G to many people. Since this offers neither a good price, or a good plan, I'll continue to recommend other handsets.
