My 2c

It is not the end of the world for me. I have not been a fan of iphone/ipod. looks nice but what MP3 player can't play music just as well.

They have to make their ROI I guess, just wait a little while and they will drop their price surely.

Not that I would get an iPhone but when I got my P1i I paid about $799 for it (subsidised), then went on a You Choose 60 plan with 250Mb broadband for $79.95/month (actually since I got a 24 month contract they gave me an additional 15 minutes calling).

So the 8G iPhone with 250Mb data and 120 minutes of calling for $549 isn't it? is not so bad for NZ - of course pretty lousy by world wide standards. I find with e-mail, using the phone as a modem for my PC, some surfing etc. I rarely get close to 250Mb/month. I end up exceeding the calltime more often so 120 minutes would be good for me.

richms: Except they say that the new casual plans will not apply, and you cant use it on prepay, so you cant use your own voice and data plan options, unless they are current you choose with a data addon, I called and asked, no data only, no old motormouth plan with data addon.

You can buy it and use on any On Account plan you have. On Account plans are much cheaper than casual data plans.

Whereas I have realized that with internet in my pocket I have almost no need for texts and voice calls, so the iphone plans with bundles I dont want are not a viable option.

Its quite ironic that on one hand vodafone promote choises with their confusing youchoose plans, then on the other they offer these 3 lame plans with no options at all.

Man, the guy who used to run ihug now becomes this... one wonders what has gone wrong with Vodafone...

I saw Campbell live too. John Campbell ripped into him good. Feel a bit sorry for him. I actually expected to see Paul Brislen on the show, but Mark must have drew the short straw and was made to go on the show.

Hopefully after the sudden flood of negative responses, they will review their pricing abit... For me, personally I'd sign on for 24 months for something in the line of $400 - $500 for the hard ware, $50 - 60 a month for 500 MB and 120 minutes (anytime minutes), don't really care too much about txting.

What I can't understand is how the head honcho of Marketing at Vodafone said he new nothing about other carriers dataplans.

Marketing manager susually do research to see what the competition is doing .

Apart from coming across as a complete plonker he has completely embarrassed himself.

He must think that NZ are so backward that we cannot look up the internet to see what other carriers are charging.

In my opinion a complete marketing disaster.

They could have used this to really give us decent realistic plans with realistic datacaps.

Actually we should think of all the benefits of Vodafone's iPhone pricing...

- NO stocking issues!
- Tonnes of publicity (there's no such thing as 'bad' publicity)
- All those credit cards spared damage
- Relationships spared 'gadget envy'
- A full nights healthy sleep on Thursday
- Vodafone finally earning the 'evil corporate' status it so richly deserves
- Telecom's PR people finally catch a break (sorta the same thing)
- Amusing TV interviews with 'Vodafone' defending the indefensible
- Labour drops another 20 pts in the polls cause it's always the governments fault
- John Key displays new iPhone in Parliment and proves he's a 'rich prick'
- My ancient Nokia suddenly looks fantastic again

Add your own.

And pity the fools so deluded as to actually buy this trinket at this price.

My 2cents (wait until you see the 'fantastic' plans)

I'll say it again.

I wouldn't have cared if the entry level plan had had the iPhone for $899 if signed up for 2 years at $150/month for 10 minutes and 10Mb of data.

John Campbell touched on it - a lot of us feel duped because of their misleading teaser information.

$199 for the iPhone on a 2 year plan... "Year Right"

That's PR talk and all the crap that comes with it, so he slightly took up some of that too.

Obviously, he should know to the finest details, the plan offered by them, and have details of competitors too. Otherwise, he shouldn't be at his position.

$30 for 200 megs on the data plan, Up to $30 for up to 300 megs (10 a day) on the casual plans. For someone that doesnt use the phone every day the casual plan can be way cheaper. vodafones site specifically excluded the iphone from casual data if you read thru all their FAQ's, and unlike every other handset theres no incentive to go onto a plan since its full price on anything but the 3 badly priced plans.
