Vodaphone is a joke, all the hype for nothing. all lip services as $6000 is overkill for most.

krysiszone: www.toshcomputers.com have stated on their website that they may be able to offer the 16gb iphone for $100 less than vodafones  standalone price.

So another way we could not buy from vodafone.

Tosh rocks, I upgraded memory to 4GB and HDD to 160GB 7200RPM for very reasonable prices on MBP.

Good to hear...They will be getting my custom again. Hear that Vodafone? That's the sound of my money not going into your pockets...Nor anyone in my family...Or anyone I give tech advice to. That's a few grand. Oh well.

nickindeedy: Arg This is BS! and this is coming from the guy who wanted to pay anything to get his hands on this beast...

GUess not.

Shall we boycot the iphone in NZ till the prices drop? I think so. dont even give them the satisfaction of a petition. I think they will realise there is a problem when they have leftovers a week from july 11

Boo

Fantastic idea.

Sadly, many people will simply bend over for vodafone.  They want that cute little device sooo muchhhh.

I know it won't happen, but I'm pretty certain that if nothing sold, prices would. Fall. Fast.

I can only hope.

Go Cambell. What a grilling.

I would feel sorry for the guy but this guy is directly responsible for the price of mobile comms in this country. It is at his level that pricing decisions get made. Better him to front that a PR spokesman than has no pricing input and is then fed to the lions.

Highlights included not being able to answer the question "what other countries is the iPhone more expensive than New Zealand" and his response that he had not seen other carriers plans.

classic.

Me too. It would be perfect if the team here could keep it in there trousers for another few months just to make vodafone shake a bit. If no one at geekzone brought a iphone. That would be a significant chunk of profit

exportgoldman: Where is the $50 plan Mark Rushworth talked about on John Campbell tonight on Vodafone's iPhone Pricing page. The lowest one I see is $80

You need to look a little deeper its hidden... right at the back... where no one can see it.

Here it is

Let's be fair folks. If you don't want to pay $250 a month, just get a You Chose plan with less voice minutes, and an appropriate mobile broadband plan.

Or is everyone here looking for a $199 iPhone?

Maybe because Mark Rushworth said that Apple puts prices higher for Macs v.s. PCs, when comparing prices for the iPhone... Laughing

It's the data, man. Think of the DAATAAAA. Data is, like, heavy. And stuff. And we're going to, like run out, man. PEAK DATA, MAN. In 2050, we'll have no data, and you'll know who to blame, you greedy buggers using data-guzzling gadgets like its 2008.

For all those people who seem to believe that NZ has the most expensive pricing it's probably worth checking out this page which was mentioned earlier today in a thread on here and has since been updated.

NZ's pricing is by no means the most expensive (but is certainly some way from the cheapest plans) but overall it represents a fairly average pricepoint and certainly represents a good bundle price compared to existing VFNZ pricing.

Yes... it's our generation's fault: food crisis, global warming, and now data crisis too... who knows what could happen next.

I'm just looking for comparable plans and prices to other countries. So yes, a $199 iPhone with a reasonable contract would be good thanks.

Thanks for pointing that out - although I assume that if I kept my existing You Choose plan and added one of the mobile broadband plans, I'd have to pay the full "retail" price for the iPhone?

My work will be buying all of us (10-15) iPhone's 3G as we are a big Apple IT integrator, and one of the bigger Apple resellers. My iPhone's screen is cracked, and bits of glass are flacking off, so I am actually genuinely hanging out for one. :-)

The biggest thing for me is getting e-mail on my phone, and Visual Voicemail, the first I can do with a 2G phone, and I hear even though we have the most expensive plans in the world, we don't get Visual Voicemail.

I've just changed jobs, so still figuring out which way is up, but I'll be interested what price we can buy them from at Renaissance wholesale.

Same here. Got my MBP from them, almost a grand less than retail. Jens is great on prices.

$999 on 16Gb unlocked for Vodafone? Sounds pretty good.
